Cody Gakpo has reportedly agreed personal terms on a transfer to Tottenham as Liverpool continue laying the groundwork for a full attacking overhaul this summer.
It has been a summer of significant change at Anfield. The club confirmed back in March that Mohamed Salah would end his legendary career at the club at the end of the season, and that was followed by a managerial change, with Arne Slot replaced by Andoni Iraola.
Liverpool have yet to move on a direct Salah replacement. Bradley Barcola of Paris Saint-Germain has emerged as their primary target, though recent reports indicate the club is preparing to pause that pursuit given PSG’s valuation of at least £145m for the 23-year-old.
Amid that uncertainty, fresh speculation over Gakpo’s future has surfaced. Dutch outlet Voetbal International reports that an agreement on personal terms between the winger and Tottenham has already been struck, with both clubs and the player “counting on a positive resolution.”
Spurs’ interest in the Dutchman has been widely discussed throughout the summer as the club push through a squad overhaul of their own. They narrowly avoided relegation on the final day of last season and have since committed around £237m to deals for Sandro Tonali, Matheus Fernandes, and Jan Paul van Hecke. A move for Manchester City‘s Savinho is also expected before the transfer deadline.
Liverpool’s attacking additions have been limited so far. The club beat Newcastle to the signing of Osasuna winger Victor Munoz, who operates primarily on the left. Rio Ngumoha is also expected to take on a more prominent role this season following encouraging cameo appearances last term.
PSG’s transfer activity may signal movement on the Barcola front. The French champions have finalised a €55m (£48m) deal to bring Ajax winger Mika Godts to Paris, a move that could suggest the club is already planning for the Frenchman’s exit. Liverpool are also understood to hold interest in Barcola’s PSG team-mate Ibrahim Mbaye.
