Mohamed Salah secured his place in the history books during Liverpool’s dominant 4–0 win over Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League. The Egyptian forward delivered a goal and an assist to ensure the Reds progressed to a quarter-final clash against Paris Saint-Germain.
The night began with frustration as Salah saw a first-half penalty saved by Ugurcan Cakır. He responded in the second half by netting Liverpool‘s fourth goal in the 61st minute. This strike made him the first African player to reach 50 goals in Champions League history. His tally includes 47 goals for the Reds, 2 goals for Basel, and 1 goal for Roma.
Record-Breaking Efficiency at Anfield
This performance also marked a personal milestone for Salah, who reached 201 goal involvements for Liverpool. His career statistics at the club now stand at 140 goals and 61 assists in only 211 appearances. Despite his influence on the pitch, he was substituted for Cody Gakpo in the 74th minute as a precautionary measure following a minor injury scare.
“It says a lot about him that after missing a penalty just before half-time (to score that goal). That can sometimes be hard for an individual or for a team, so compliment to the team for how we came out in the second half because we’ve had a lot of setbacks this season. He assisted first to Hugo, a great assist, and then scored a trademark goal, which he scored many of in this stadium and for this club, coming inside and finding the top corner.”
The coaching staff highlighted the mental resilience required to recover from the missed spot-kick, praising Salah for his trademark finish into the top corner.
