Real Madrid are keeping close tabs on Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté as the French defender enters the final stretch of his contract at Anfield. With just over a year remaining on his deal, the 25-year-old could be lining up for a sensational Bosman transfer to the Santiago Bernabéu next summer.
According to Marca, Madrid’s recruitment team is carefully tracking developments, fully aware that they could present a pre-contract offer to Konaté as early as January. That would allow the Spanish giants to secure the services of a physically dominant, tactically sharp centre-back without paying a transfer fee — a move very much in line with their strategic market approach.
Konaté Responds to Contract Speculation
Despite the increasing noise surrounding his future, Konaté himself has been candid in addressing the rumors. Speaking at the end of last season, he dispelled much of the media chatter:
“You know, I just want to say one thing: Everything you saw on social media is completely fake. I didn’t even ask for something from the club. They made me an offer, and I replied to them with something, that is it.”
The France international further added that claims from major journalists were wide of the mark:
“Even the big journalists said in November I am very close to signing the deal. I was like: ‘Ah, they have more information than me!?’ Because it was not true at that moment. I was a little bit mad because it was not true at this moment.”
While his agent has reportedly held talks with Liverpool, Konaté remains noncommittal:
“Progressing? Not really but my agent met the club last week. I don’t know what will happen. I cannot say what my agent said to me but yeah, we will see what will happen.”
Madrid’s Long-Term Vision
From a tactical standpoint, Konaté could be an ideal long-term successor to the aging core of Real Madrid’s defense. His combination of pace, power, and composure under pressure aligns with Los Blancos’ modern, possession-based setup — especially when paired alongside Éder Militão or Rüdiger.
Whether this interest translates into formal negotiations remains to be seen, but with January just around the corner, the clock is ticking for Liverpool. Will they cash in now, push harder to extend, or risk losing a valuable asset for nothing?
Stay tuned as this transfer saga develops — and don’t be surprised if Madrid’s next defensive pillar is already hiding in plain sight.
