Nikola Jokić reached a milestone shared by only one other player in NBA history, posting his 200th career triple-double as the Denver Nuggets defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 104-91 on Wednesday.
The Nuggets center finished the night with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists, leading all players on the floor with a plus-17 mark. The performance pushed Jokić past a threshold reached by just one man before him in league history, cementing his place among the most productive playmaking big men the sport has ever produced.
Russell Westbrook remains the all-time triple-double leader with 209, a total built across 18 NBA seasons. Jokić is only in his 12th campaign, meaning he has reached the 200 mark at a pace Westbrook never approached at a comparable stage of his career.
The gap between the two players now sits at just nine triple-doubles. Given Jokić’s current usage rate and the Nuggets’ offensive scheme, which runs through him as both a scorer and distributor, the record appears to be a matter of when, not if.
A Dominant Night in Denver
Denver controlled the game from start to finish against New Orleans, with Jokić’s all-around production setting the tone. His ability to fill the stat sheet without needing a heavy shot volume continues to separate him from traditional centers around the league.
The win improves Denver’s standing early in the season and reinforces the Nuggets’ identity as a team built around their star’s unique skill set. Few players in NBA history have combined size, vision and scoring touch the way Jokić has across more than a decade in the league.
Congrats to Nikola Jokić of the Denver Nuggets for becoming the second player to reach 200 triple-doubles!
What Comes Next
Jokić’s chase of Westbrook’s record will remain one of the storylines to track this season. With nine triple-doubles separating the two, a healthy stretch of games could see the Nuggets center claim the top spot before the year is out.
