ZETA DIVISIONOn day three of Masters Reykjavík, we had the first two teams eliminated from the tournament, and we also go to know the second team to qualify for the playoffs.

DRX vs NIP

Korean super team DRX faced the Brazilian second seed NIP to determine who would place first in group A and advance to the playoffs.
NIP upset Fnatic 2-0 yesterday, while DRX dominated their series against Zeta Divison also winning 2-0. Analysts and fans had DRX as the favorites coming into this series.
DRK picked Breeze, while NIP choose Icebox. Fracture would be the third map if necessary.
Icebox saw DRX completely dominate NIP on the attacking side. The Brazilian squad had no answer for the Koreans, which ended the half with a 10-2 lead.

They carried the momentum to the second half and closed out the game 13-4. It was yet another great performance by DRX, and non the less on their opponent’s map pick.
It looked like DRK was poised to take this series 2-0 and advance to the playoffs.

NIP start on Breeze was much better, the Brazilian team won the pistol round, and despite DRX still being able to get three straight rounds, NIP was able to quickly responded and we had a very close first half.
The Korean super team still managed to take the 7-5 lead into the second half. But NIP once again won the pistol round and was also able to convert the second round of the half.
With a 7-7 score it looked like we were going to have a much closer game, and that NIP had a good chance of forcing the third map.

However, DRX was able to bounce back and take control of the game. Good retakes, great team play, playing well of each other, as well as gaining a lot of map control, and playing aggressively, saw DRX take the lead 12-7.
It was notorious that DRX was just on a new level today, the team won Breeze 13-8 and is qualified for playoffs as the first seed of group A.
NIP will have to face the winner of Fnatic versus Zeta Divison for their last chance to make it to the playoffs.

Optic Gaming vs KRÜ Esports

Optic Gaming and KRÜ Esports faced off in a series where the loser was out o the tournament.
KRÜ Esports picked Bind, while Optic Gaming choose Ascent. Haven would be the third map if necessary.
The game started with KRÜ Esports winning the pistol round and also converting the eco round.
Optic Gaming answered back with seven straight rounds. yay chamber was on fire, and the North American superstar was finding some crucial opening kills for his team.

It looked like KRÜ Esports were lost on their attacking side, noting they did was working, and there were some questionable plays and use of utility.
At halftime, Optic Gaming was in the lead 8-4.
Optic Gaming didn’t slow down in the second half, and closed out the map 13-5, in a dominant performance on their opponent’s map pick.

Heading into Ascent it looked like Optic Gaming was destined to win the series 2-0 after such a strong performance on game one.
This time it was KRÜ Esports that got a great start on their defensive side, taking a 6-3 lead and forcing Optic Gaming to change their attacking side plans.

KRÜ Esports went into the second half with a 7-5 lead and wasn’t going to go out without a fight.
Despite their great first half, Optic Gaming proved their defensive side was even more impressive. With a great team performance Optic Gaming took the driver’s seat in the second half when they took the lead 11-8 and never looked back.
With a 13-10 win on Ascent, Optic Gaming will now get their rematch against XERXIA for a playoff spot, while KRÜ Esports journey ends here.

Zeta Division vs Fnatic

Both teams were facing elimination and Fnatic came into this one as the heavy favorites. Zeta Division was trying to find some international success for the Japanese fans.
Fracture was Zeta Division pick, while Fnatic choose Icebox. Haven would be the deciding map if necessary.
Zeta DIvison put on a clinic performance on their defensive side, Fnatic was struggling to enter the site and find any kind of success on the attacking side.

The Japanese squad finished the first half with a 9-3 lead and were ready to upset Fnatic on map one.
Fnatic still tried to mount a comeback but it was too little too late. Zeta Divison won map one 13-7 in a very dominant fashion.

The second map was a much closer one. Both teams traded rounds back and forth at the being of the half, but Fnatic took the lead after winning four rounds in a row.
Zeta division was able to come back at the end of the half, winning the last four rounds on their defensive side, and we went into halftime with a 6-6 score.

Fnatic started the second half with the pistol win and was able to convert the eco and bonus rounds, so things were looking good for the European side.
However, the Japanese squad wasn’t going to let this game slip this easily, with great team performance, and some spectacular individual plays, Zeta Divison went on to win six of the last eight rounds of the half and the upset over Fnatic was confirmed, 13-11 and Fnatic are out of Master Reykjavík 2022.
Zeta Division was finally able to find some international success for the Japanese fans, and will now have a chance to play for a playoff spot in their series against NIP.
