Today we had the first two matches of the lower bracket, where four teams were fighting for their tournament live. Both series were very close and we got to watch some of the best Valorant of the tournament.

Without further ado, let’s see how the two series unfolded.

Zeta Divison vs Team Liquid

After losing to LOUD 2-1, Team Liquid was coming into this series as the heavy favorites. Zeta Divison had an impressive run so far but most people thought that ended here.

Zeta Division picked Fracture, while Team Liquid choose Haven. Split would be the deciding map if necessary.

Fracture

On their defensive side, Zeta Division had the best start to half so far on this event. The Japanese team got to an 8-0 lead, converting the first eight rounds of the half and making Team Liquid fans realize how good they are.

The European team was still able to put two rounds on the board in the first half but went into the second half down 10-2. it looked almost impossible for Team Liquid to come back into this game.

With a win on the pistol round, and winning five of the first six rounds on their defensive side, Team Liquid was showing signs of life, despite the fact they still had a mountain to scale if they wanted to take game one.

However, this comeback attempt wasn’t enough, and Zeta Division won Fracture 13-7 in a very convincing manner. If team Liquid wanted to move on they would now need to reverse sweep this series, and it wouldn’t be an easy task.

Haven

On the second map, the roles got switched, with the European squad now doing an insane first half on the attacking side, steamrolling over any defensive scheme Zeta Division tried.

Once again, 10-2 was the score at halftime, but this time it was Team Liquid in the lead.

Zeta Division wasn’t going to throw out the towel, the Japanese side won the pistol round and showed they were going to fight until the end.

But Team Liquid was quick to answer back and won their eco rounds, this made Zeta Division comeback almost impossible, and the European third seed took the second map 13-4 and we were heading into Split.

Split

Everything would be determined on Split. Would the favorites prevail? Or would the Cinderella story continue for Zeta Division?

On their defensive side, Zeta Division started well, winning the first four rounds of the half.

The response from Team Liquid was equally great. The European side knew they couldn’t let this game get out of hand, and were able to win five of the next six rounds. The game was now 5-5 and it seemed we were going to have a closed map three.

With a 6-6 score heading into the second half the game was up for grabs. But then something unexpected happened.

Zeta Division, the Japanese champions, went on to win the first five rounds of the second half and took control of the game.

It looked like Team Liquid couldn’t stop the Japanese team, and something had to change or this was going to be the last we saw of Team Liquid at this Masters.

Team Liquid still tried their best but Zeta Division prowess on their attacking side was just too much for the European side.

13-7 was the scoreline and the cinderella story of Zeta Division continues.

The Japanese team will now face the loser of Loud vs G2 Esports, while Team Liquid is going home.

The Guard vs Paper Rex

North American champion The Guard was knocked down to the lower bracket by Optic Gaming and would face the APAC Champions Paper Rex, who lost versus the Korean super team DRX.

The Guard picked Haven, while Paper Rex choose Split. Icebox would be the deciding map if necessary.

Haven

Paper Rex was able to win the pistol and eco round, with The Guard being able to get on the board by winning the bonus round.

The APAC champions went on a four-round winning streak and had now a comfortable 6-1 lead.

The first half finished with an 8-4 scoreline, which meant this was still anyone’s game.

It was necessary for The Guard to win the pistol round if they wanted to get back in the game. But Paper Rex would let that thappend, and won their second pistol of the game.

Something had to change for The Guard, and the team needed to quickly get back on the board.

After some adjustments, the North American champions were able to win four rounds in a row and suddenly there was still hope for The Guard.

However, Paper Rex just needed two more rounds to win map one, and they were able to get them.

13-10 was the score of map one, and The Guard now needed to win Paper Rex map pick, otherwise one of the favorites of the tournament was going home much sooner than expected.

Split

Split started the same way Haven did, with Paper Rex winning the Pistol round.

The Guard answered with three straight rounds and took the lead 3-2.

The rest of the first half was very back and forth, it no team being able to establish dominance.

With a 6-6 score going into the second half, and Paper Rex now on the defensive side, The Guard had a very difficult task ahead of them.

The Guard was able to win the Psditol round, but Paper Rex answered nack with a win on their eco round messing the economy of the North American team.

After a close back and forth game in the first half, the second half was absolutely the opposite.

APAC champions Paper Rex dominated on their defensive side and didn’t give The Guard a chance to get back into the game.

With a five-round winning streak, Paper Rex was in firm control of the game.

Eventually, they would close out the game 13-8 and the second upset of the day was confirmed.

With this result, The Guard is now shockingly out of the tournament, and Optic Gaming is the last NA hope.

As for Paper Rex, they move on to round two of the lower bracket and will face the loser of Optic Gaming vs DRX.
