Two Swap Deal Proposals Could End Marcus Rashford's Manchester United Career

28.05.2026, 04:56

Manchester United have been made aware of two swap deal proposals that could bring a permanent end to Marcus Rashford‘s Old Trafford career. The 28-year-old is currently set to return to his parent club this summer after a season-long loan at Barcelona, but that outcome may change depending on how the club responds to either proposal.

The first proposal would send Rashford to AC Milan in exchange for Portuguese winger Rafael Leao, who carries a £131 million release clause. Reports have consistently linked Leao with a move to Manchester, with indications that the Italian giants are willing to let him go.

The straight swap has the backing of United legend Jaap Stam. Speaking to ComeOn, the Dutchman said:

“Maybe a swap between Rafael Leao and Marcus Rashford could work. Leao is also a good player. He has shown his potential at Milan, of course, in what he can do. I think he is a player that should be on the list of targets for Man Utd. Having said that, you need to have a look not only at the skill of a player, but also at the mentality of players. You need to consider the situation where the club is, what player they are bringing in that is going to help the club going forward, so that you don’t get any irritations from players who are not being picked to start.”

The second proposal centres on Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado. Mundo Deportivo has reported that United have entered the race for the 22-year-old Spanish international. A deal for Casado could offer Barcelona a direct path to signing Rashford permanently without needing to trigger the £26 million purchase option. Michael Carrick is looking to reinforce his midfield following Casemiro‘s departure.

Barcelona have yet to activate their clause on Rashford, with talks over the transfer fee reported to be ongoing. Rashford has posted 14 goals and 14 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions this season, a return that has prompted Barcelona team-mate Frenkie de Jong to publicly call for him to remain in Catalonia.

Speaking to Sport, de Jong said:

“Yes, I believe so. In the minutes he’s played, he has given us a lot: goals, assists, depth. He is a fast player, who threatens rival defences. I would be delighted if he continued with us. He arrived here with a lot of enthusiasm. He was very happy to be here and from the first moment he arrived you could already see that he wanted to stay. He’s tried to adapt as best he could and I’ve seen him do well.”

With Rashford‘s future still unresolved and two credible swap routes now on the table, the coming weeks will be decisive for both the player and the club. Follow TipsGG for the latest updates on this transfer situation.
