Rashford joined Barcelona on a season-long loan from Old Trafford last summer. The 28-year-old has delivered 14 goals and 10 assists across 48 appearances in all competitions, with 25 starts. The two clubs agreed to a €30m (£26m) buyout clause in the temporary deal, but Barcelona are reportedly reluctant to trigger it, instead seeking to reduce the fee or arrange another loan for next season.

The situation took a new dimension with Jose Mourinho widely expected to be named the next Real Madrid head coach. The Independent‘s Miguel Delaney reported that Mourinho holds a strong existing relationship with Rashford and could target him as one of his first signings at the Bernabeu.

“If there is significant change, some sources close to the situation say Mourinho may add even more intrigue by going for Marcus Rashford. Mourinho has an existing good relationship with Rashford and there is a feeling he would love to do it for two reasons: one to get a good player he knows; two to already cause disruption as well as a few problems for Barcelona.” – Miguel Delaney, The Independent

Spanish reports have since reinforced that angle. Mourinho has requested Rashford‘s signing during early discussions over Real Madrid‘s sporting plans, with the incoming coach reportedly convinced the forward fits perfectly into his playing style.

The same reports note that Rashford personally prefers to remain at Barcelona, where he has found an environment that suits him both on and off the pitch. A return to Manchester is not on the table. With Barcelona‘s permanent deal in doubt, the England international has begun considering alternatives, and Real Madrid ranks among them.

“At the moment, there are no negotiations. And Barça haven’t completely ruled out his staying. Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on the situation in case the right opportunity arises to bring him to the club. And as of today, Marcus is closer to joining Real Madrid or another team than to staying at Barca.” – Spanish report

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed in a recent YouTube video that Mourinho will become the new Real Madrid manager, stating that everything has been agreed and only final contractual details remain.

“Jose Mourinho will be the new Real Madrid manager. Everything has been agreed between Mourinho and Real Madrid, with only the final contractual details being resolved before the agreement is officially signed. There could still be a small adjustment to the contract structure, but nothing significant. Everything is done. There is a verbal agreement, a handshake with Florentino Perez, and all parties are now preparing for the formal confirmation.” – Fabrizio Romano

Romano also outlined the defensive overhaul expected at Real Madrid this summer. Dani Carvajal is set to leave, with Mourinho not requesting his retention. Antonio Rudiger is in talks over a new contract under revised terms and holds a strong chance of staying. Dani Ceballos and David Alaba are both expected to depart.

“Real Madrid are preparing for several important changes in defence. Dani Carvajal is leaving the club. Mourinho is not asking for Carvajal to stay, so the player will say goodbye to Real Madrid at the end of the season. Dani Ceballos is also expected to leave, while David Alaba is set to depart as well. There will be many changes within the Real Madrid squad this summer.” – Fabrizio Romano

With Mourinho‘s appointment at Real Madrid moving toward confirmation, the Rashford situation will only intensify in the weeks ahead. The former Chelsea and Tottenham manager’s preference for Rashford adds weight to a transfer scenario that looked unlikely just months ago.
