The 2026 League of Legends World Championship starts on October 15 and runs through November 14, with 19 teams travelling to the United States to fight over the Summoner’s Cup. The headline number for bettors and fans alike is the same as last season: $5,000,000 USD on the line, with $1,000,000 of that reserved for the champion.
LoL Worlds 2026 Prize Pool Breakdown
Riot splits the pot by finishing position, and the drop-off after the top two is steep. Winning the whole thing pays 20% of the pool. Going out in the group stage can mean as little as 0.6%.
| Place | Prize (USD) | Share of pool |
|---|---|---|
| 1st | $1,000,000 | 20% |
| 2nd | $800,000 | 16% |
| 3rd-4th | $400,000 | 8% |
| 5th-8th | $300,000 | 6% |
| 9th-11th | $175,000 | 3.5% |
| 12th-14th | $125,000 | 2.5% |
| 15th-16th | $90,000 | 1.8% |
| 17th | $50,000 | 1% |
| 18th | $40,000 | 0.8% |
| 19th | $30,000 | 0.6% |
The gap between a semi-final exit and a final appearance is $400,000. The gap between second and first is $200,000 plus the trophy, and honestly, nobody in that room is playing for the money by that point.
From $100,000 to $5 Million
This is the 16th World Championship since the event began in 2011. That first edition ran as part of DreamHack Summer with a prize pool of just $100,000 USD. Fifteen years later the figure sits at $5,000,000 USD, a fiftyfold increase that tracks the growth of the game itself.
Viewership tells the same story. The final of the 2025 League of Legends World Championship pulled 6.7 million viewers, making it the second most-watched esports event of all time. Worlds is no longer a side attraction at a LAN festival.
Who Is Playing for It
Defending champions T1 arrive chasing a fourth consecutive title, which would be unprecedented. The bookmakers are not convinced: Gen.G enter as favourites. Challengers from China, Europe and North America all come in with the same stated goal of breaking Korean dominance, and the field of 19 gives at least a few of them a realistic path deep into the bracket.
Riot’s theme for the event is ‘This is our moment’, aimed at the players, the fans and the wider ecosystem around the MOBA. The anthem and full broadcast package follow the same line.
Betting Angle From the TipsGG Desk
Prize distribution matters more than people assume when reading a tournament. Teams on the bubble between 15th and 17th are fighting over a $40,000 swing, which does not change much for an org with a large budget but can shape how a smaller roster approaches a must-win series. We think the more useful read is structural: four teams split $300,000 each in the quarter-final bracket, so outright markets tend to compress around the three or four sides with a genuine shot at the final, while the middle of the field is where the value on handicaps and map totals usually sits.
