Liverpool Push to Land Monaco Midfielder Lamine Camara

Liverpool are working on a deal to sign AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, according to Football Insider, as Andoni Iraola looks to add depth to his midfield ranks ahead of the January window.

Since Iraola took charge, Liverpool have shown patchy form. The Reds opened their Champions League campaign with a win over Atletico Madrid and edged past Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup third round.

Domestic results tell a different story. Liverpool have won just one of their opening four Premier League fixtures and sit in mid-table with six points. Iraola now prepares to face his former club, AFC Bournemouth, this weekend.

Liverpool sold Curtis Jones over the summer but did not bring in a replacement. Iraola currently relies on Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Trey Nyoni and Wataru Endo to cover the deeper midfield positions.

Endo has drifted to the fringes of the squad in recent seasons, and Nyoni remains a developing prospect who needs time before carrying regular responsibility.

Camara emerges as the leading target

Football Insider reports that Liverpool are weighing a midfield reinforcement for January and have narrowed their list down to Camara as the priority signing. Iraola’s staff have already opened talks with the player’s representatives in an effort to convince him a move to Anfield makes sense.

The 22-year-old came close to joining Chelsea during the summer window, but Monaco blocked the transfer, a decision that reportedly frustrated the player’s agent. Camara has stayed focused on his club duties since, though a mid-season move remains possible.

What Camara offers

Transfermarkt values Camara at around £34m, and he holds a contract with Monaco through 2029. That deal length gives Monaco strong leverage if they are eventually forced to sell.

Camara operates primarily as a right-footed defensive midfielder but can shift into a box-to-box role when required. He carries clear potential and the physical profile needed to adapt to Premier League intensity.

A move for Camara would represent a smart addition to Liverpool’s engine room. Whether the Merseyside club can actually get the deal done in the winter window remains the open question.
