Reds Secure French Defender for Next Season
Liverpool have finalized a £60 million agreement to sign Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet though the 20-year-old won’t arrive at Anfield until the summer transfer window.
The deal, which includes £55 million upfront plus £5 million in add-ons, is pending a medical. Personal terms with the France Under-21 international are expected to be straightforward.
Jacquet has been on the radar of several top clubs, including Chelsea, who explored a move during the January window. Whether they’ll return with a rival offer remains unclear.
For now, Liverpool have secured their man just not in time for the current campaign. The young centre-half will continue developing in Ligue 1 before making the switch to the Premier League.
“It’s a massive opportunity for me,” Jacquet told French media last month. “Playing for a club like Liverpool is a dream.”
The Reds have been linked with defensive reinforcements for months, and Jacquet’s arrival could signal a long-term solution at the back. His composure on the ball and physical presence have drawn comparisons to established Premier League defenders.
With the deal agreed in principle, attention now turns to the summer when Jacquet will officially become a Liverpool player.
