Lakers Advance; Eastern Rivals Extend Playoff Life
LeBron James led the Los Angeles Lakers to a 98-78 victory over the Houston Rockets in Game 6, securing a trip to the Western Conference Semifinals. The Lakers will face the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder in the next round.
James posted 28 points on 10-for-25 shooting, adding 7 rebounds and 8 assists while registering a game-high +26 plus-minus. The performance marked his 22nd career series-clinching victory on the road, passing Derek Fisher and Tim Duncan for the most all-time. Rui Hachimura contributed 21 points with 5 three-pointers and 6 rebounds, while Austin Reaves added 15 points and 3 blocks.
Alperen Sengun led the Rockets with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Amen Thompson finished with 18 points, 8 boards and 3 blocks, while Tari Eason posted 14 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals in the elimination loss.
Cunningham’s Fourth-Quarter Explosion Powers Pistons Past Magic
The Detroit Pistons pulled off the largest comeback by a road team facing elimination since the 1996-97 season, storming back from a 24-point deficit to defeat the Orlando Magic 93-79. The victory forced a Game 7 showdown on Sunday.
Cade Cunningham was the catalyst, erupting for 19 of his game-high 32 points in the fourth quarter. He added 10 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists across 42 minutes. The Pistons outscored Orlando 31-8 in the final 12 minutes after trailing by as many as 24 points in the third quarter. Tobias Harris chipped in 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Duncan Robinson contributed 14 points with 4 three-pointers and a +24 plus-minus.
Desmond Bane and Paolo Banchero each scored 17 points for Orlando despite leading for much of the contest. Banchero recorded 4-for-20 shooting with 10 rebounds and 6 assists. The Magic‘s collapsed defense in the fourth quarter proved costly in what looked like a clinching opportunity.
Barrett’s Shot Carries Raptors Past Cavaliers in Overtime
RJ Barrett delivered a go-ahead three-pointer with a favorable bounce in overtime, lifting the Toronto Raptors past the Cleveland Cavaliers 112-110. The Raptors survive elimination to set up a Game 7 in Cleveland on Sunday.
Barrett finished with 24 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists in 43 minutes. Scottie Barnes led the team with 25 points and 14 assists alongside 7 rebounds and 3 steals in 48 minutes, while Ja’Kobe Walter added 24 points with four three-pointers, 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
Evan Mobley paced Cleveland with 26 points and 14 rebounds in 41 minutes. Donovan Mitchell scored 24 points on 11-for-26 shooting, including 13 in the fourth quarter, with 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Despite the loss, Mitchell‘s aggressive play nearly carried the Cavaliers to victory in regulation.
Sunday’s Elimination Games Set Stage for Conference Semifinals
The Pistons and Raptors will both face sudden-death contests on Sunday with trips to the Eastern Conference Semifinals on the line. This marks the second-most Game 7s in the first round since the format expanded to best-of-seven series in 2003, trailing only 2014 when five Game 7s were played.
The Lakers‘ advance to face Oklahoma City sets up a heavyweight matchup between the defending Western Conference champions and a resurgent Thunder squad. Follow all playoff developments on TipsGG for real-time coverage, analysis and updated odds.
