West Ham United have confirmed the sacking of Graham Potter, just five games into the 2025/26 campaign. The decision comes after a string of poor results, capped by a 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace at the London Stadium — the Hammers’ third home loss already this season.
Board Statement
In an official statement, West Ham said:
“Results and performances over the course of the second half of last season and the start of the 2025/26 season have not matched expectations. The Board of Directors believe that a change is necessary to improve the team’s position in the Premier League as soon as possible.”
Potter’s coaching staff — including Bruno Saltor, Billy Reid, Narcis Pelach, Casper Ankergren, and Linus Kandolin — have also departed with immediate effect.
Potter’s Struggles at West Ham
Appointed in January on a two-and-a-half-year deal to replace Julen Lopetegui, Potter lasted just 25 matches in charge. His record: 6 wins, 5 draws, and 14 defeats. The Hammers have now won just three of their last 15 league games, slipping into relegation danger early this season.
Potter oversaw heavy defeats including a 5-1 home loss to Chelsea and a 3-0 defeat to Tottenham, while also crashing out of the Carabao Cup. Fans voiced their frustration with boos and walkouts at the London Stadium, adding to the pressure on the 50-year-old.
Potter’s Career in Decline
This marks Potter’s second consecutive short-lived spell in the Premier League, following his dismissal at Chelsea after just 31 games. His reputation, once built on impressive progress with Brighton, has now suffered after back-to-back sackings.
What’s Next for West Ham?
Potter becomes the second Premier League manager to be sacked this season, following Nottingham Forest’s dismissal of Nuno Espírito Santo. According to The Independent, Gary O’Neil is among the leading candidates to take charge, while other names such as Nuno and Slaven Bilić remain in the mix.
West Ham’s search for stability continues, with crucial fixtures ahead and the board desperate to avoid another relegation fight.
