Cesc Fabregas has reaffirmed his commitment to Como, putting to rest swirling rumours about a potential managerial move to Inter Milan. The former Arsenal, Barcelona, and Chelsea midfielder made his stance clear on Wednesday, following reports that he’s Inter’s top candidate to replace Simone Inzaghi.
Fabregas, who led newly-promoted Como to an impressive 10th place finish in Serie A last season, has quickly earned managerial plaudits. His dual role as head coach and shareholder adds an extra layer of loyalty to the club where he ended his playing days.
Fabregas told attendees at the South By Southwest (SXSW) conference in London, –
“I really believe in Como’s long-term project. I arrived here as a player and I’m very, very happy because I can work here the way I want.”
Despite his statement, Italian media continue to link the Spaniard to the Inter hot seat. Simone Inzaghi’s departure by mutual consent on Tuesday—just days after a humbling 5-0 Champions League final loss to PSG—has left the Nerazzurri in urgent need of a replacement, with the Club World Cup looming in under two weeks.
Whether Inter’s interest materializes into a formal approach remains to be seen, but for now, Fabregas is doubling down on a project that clearly inspires him. The question is—how long will Como be able to hold onto one of Italy’s most intriguing young managers?
