Michael Carrick, serving as interim manager for Manchester United, has maintained his undefeated streak, guiding the Red Devils to a crucial victory at Old Trafford. This win elevates them to third place in the Premier League standings.
Carrick’s Halftime Adjustments Fuel United’s Turnaround
The match began with a sluggish performance from United, who conceded an early goal in just the fourth minute. Maxence Lacroix capitalized on a corner, heading the ball home to give Crystal Palace the lead.
Despite a strong finish to the first half, Carrick was visibly animated as he headed down the tunnel at the interval, clearly recognizing the need for a change. He later explained his thought process to reporters:
“It’s the first time that we’ve been in that situation going in at half-time.
At half-time, it was about being in that position and how we react—showing that personality and the belief. We wanted to make more runs and be a little more aggressive in attacking their back line.”
The manager, however, downplayed his personal impact on the turnaround, insisting that the adjustments were minor.
“It was just a couple of little tweaks in shape, maybe a couple of ideas. Honestly, it wasn’t major and I’m not taking much credit for that. It was more about finding a way.”
The tactical modifications quickly paid dividends. Matheus Cunha earned a penalty, which Bruno Fernandes calmly converted to equalize the score.
Sesko Secures Victory for United
The comeback was completed in the 65th minute by Benjamin Sesko, who has been in phenomenal form. Making his first league start under Carrick, the Slovenian striker justified his selection by powerfully heading home a cross from Fernandes.
This marked Sesko’s fourth goal in his last five appearances, solidifying his reputation as one of the Premier League’s most clinical finishers in 2026. After a challenging start to his career at United, the £74 million signing appears to be flourishing under Carrick’s guidance.

Manchester United continues its resurgence under Carrick as the battle for a top-four finish intensifies. The only negatives from the match were injuries to Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw, as United will need their key players healthy for the final stretch of the season.
