Brighton & Hove Albion have made a new deal for Yasin Ayari a priority task, with the midfielder’s contract set to expire at the end of the season and outside interest building fast.
Football Insider reports that Ayari’s current agreement runs out next summer, a situation that has pushed Brighton into action. The Seagulls are aware that Newcastle United and other clubs retain strong admiration for the Swedish international, and allowing his contract to run down further would hand suitors leverage they don’t want to give up.
Ayari has sharpened his output under Fabian Hurzeler this season, already netting twice in six league appearances. Brighton currently sit third in the Premier League table, five points off Manchester City, and much of that platform has been built on Ayari’s capacity to break into the box while shielding the backline. At 23, he has turned into one of the squad’s most valuable operators during a genuine title push.
That form has created a problem as much as it has solved one. The same performances fueling Brighton’s season have made Ayari a target, and his expiring deal leaves the club exposed. Losing a player of his caliber for nothing would be a damaging outcome for a side with genuine ambitions this term.
Brighton to prioritise Yasin Ayari contract
Reports from the summer suggested Brighton were still weighing up Ayari’s long-term role, which partly explains why a renewed offer wasn’t tabled sooner. At that stage, the midfielder hadn’t yet shown the consistency that has defined his displays since the campaign started.
Interest was already building back then. A number of Premier League sides circled after Ayari impressed at the World Cup, and Newcastle were reportedly among the most serious admirers, with the Magpies said to be ready to test Brighton’s resolve. Newcastle were keen to add midfield depth at the time but ultimately pursued other targets instead.
Matthias Jaissle continues to look for midfield reinforcements, and with Newcastle having kept tabs on Ayari’s situation, a renewed approach before the January window can’t be ruled out. A cut-price move in winter or a free transfer next summer remain live possibilities if Brighton don’t act.
Brighton want neither outcome. Protecting Ayari’s value and shutting down any chance of a January raid or a Bosman departure next year means moving quickly, and the club appear determined to get a new deal over the line before the situation slips further out of their control.
