Matchday 2 of the Conference League league phase arrives on 22 October with four fixtures covered here and a selection attached to every one of them. Three of the four picks lean on a goal line or a double chance combined with a cap on goals, and the prices stretch from 1.71 at the short end to 2.24 at the top, figures you can translate into implied probability with an odds converter. TipsGG publishes free football betting tips with pre-match odds for the Conference League and Europe’s other club competitions. With only eight league-phase games to play, a second blank in two rounds already starts to hurt, which is why sides who stumbled in the opener are under visible pressure here. The reasoning comes from Oleksii Svyrydov, TipsGG Sports & Esports Expert, and Oleksandr Halian, Sports Data Manager, two picks apiece.
| Match | Market | Odds | Analyst |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ajax vs Atalanta | Over 3 goals | 1.95 | Oleksii Svyrydov |
| Monaco vs Freiburg | Freiburg not to lose (X2) & under 4.5 goals | 1.89 | Oleksii Svyrydov |
| Braga vs Gent | Gent not to lose (X2) & under 4.5 goals | 2.24 | Oleksandr Halian |
| Aarhus vs KF Egnatia | Both teams to score – Yes | 1.71 | Oleksandr Halian |
Ajax vs Atalanta Prediction
Ajax staged a genuine shootout away at Groningen, winning 5:2. The red-and-whites tore the hosts’ defence apart with varied combinations: Julian Brandt opened the scoring with a fine strike into the top corner and later added another, Aaron Bouwman scored from a corner routine, and the young Jorthy Mokio finished the opponents off with a brace. Special applause went to Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who rescued the side by saving a penalty late on. In the Eredivisie the Amsterdam club are gradually climbing towards the summit: the gap to Feyenoord, currently top, is 5 points. In the Conference League, though, Ajax need to improve their situation, because the opening-round defeat to Hajduk (0:1) and an extremely tough opponent in round two could damage their chances of reaching the playoffs.
On the other side, Atalanta travel to Amsterdam after a serious blow to their pride: 4 of the last 5 Serie A matches have ended in defeat for Maurizio Sarri‘s side. The most recent game against Milan (2:3) went badly: having conceded three goals first, the visitors tried to turn things around through Gianluca Gaetano and Nikola Krstovic, but a dismal first half ended any hope of even a point. Unlike Ajax, however, the Bergamo side opened their Conference League campaign with a confident win over Pafos (3:1).
A clash between two exponents of total football guarantees high tempo and a mutual exchange of chances. The Amsterdam side take the initiative at home, while the Italians punish gaps in defence expertly and mostly rely on their own attack, so zeros on the scoreboard are not to be expected.
Prediction: Over 3 goals – odds 1.95
Monaco vs Freiburg Betting Tips
The Monegasques tripped themselves up badly in the French league, losing to Lorient (0:1). The side from the Principality were the more active team across all 90 minutes (58% possession and 15 shots against 9 for the opponent), but everything was undone by a needless foul from Denis Zakaria in his own box, which led to a penalty on the 60th minute. After 7 rounds in Ligue 1 as many as 5 teams at the top are level on points – 14 each – and Monaco are one of them. In the Conference League, meanwhile, they are unbeaten thanks to an opening away win (2:1) at CSKA Sofia.
Freiburg arrive at the Stade Louis II after an unfortunate away defeat to Bayer Leverkusen (1:2). The visitors began that game brightly and went ahead as early as the 14th minute through an accurate finish from Derry Scherhant, but Leverkusen replied almost immediately and then saw the game out in the second half. It was Freiburg’s first defeat of the Bundesliga season: after 6 rounds, Julian Schuster‘s men sit third with 13 points, just one behind the leaders, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. A spectacular win over Jablonec (3:2) in the opening Conference League round also gives the Germans reason to feel comfortable.
I will side with the visitors here. I like their form at the start of the season: beyond the results, they show confident attacking football and, despite minor lapses at the back, play intensively with plenty of running and aggressive pressing. Monaco look more inert in that respect, although as hosts they will of course have the crowd behind them.
Prediction: Freiburg not to lose (X2) and under 4.5 goals – odds 1.89
Braga vs Gent Odds & Pick
The Estadio Municipal de Braga hosts a second-round league-phase Conference League tie in which Braga, after an unexpected heavy defeat to Copenhagen (0:3), will try to pick up their first points, while Gent will look to take at least one point home.
Braga come into the game on a run of three straight defeats. While the loss to Sporting Lisbon (1:3) is understandable, the collapse in Copenhagen and the setback against Gil Vicente are harder to explain. After last season’s success in reaching the Europa League semi-finals, the Portuguese side currently look nothing like that team.
Gent, under Rik De Mil, have not lost in normal time in any of their 16 matches since the start of the new season. Admittedly, in their latest Belgian Cup game they went out on penalties (3:4) to lower-league Union Rochefortoise. Even so, the Belgian coach’s pragmatic football is bearing fruit – the team even lead the Jupiler League, although it is only early in the season. Nine of Gent’s 16 matches have finished under the classic total of 2.5 goals. The side’s first priority is reliability at the back, and only then finding their moment in attack.
Carlos Vicens is under serious pressure after a run of poor results. On top of that, Braga play at home, which should give the team extra motivation to end their bad spell. At the same time, Gent clearly have a well-defined plan for the game. The visitors’ results look far more convincing, so I suggest backing them not to lose.
Prediction: Gent not to lose (X2) and under 4.5 goals – odds 2.24
Aarhus vs KF Egnatia Preview
At Cepheus Park, the reigning Danish champions host the winners of the Albanian Superliga.
Last season Aarhus frankly punched above their weight. The new campaign illustrates that clearly – the team are only one point clear of bottom spot in their domestic league. Their opponents, by contrast, are active contenders in the Albanian title race, trailing first place by just one point.
Since the start of the season, six of Aarhus’s eight official matches have seen both teams score. Notably, in all three of their European qualifying ties both sides found the net.
Meanwhile, across eight matches for KF Egnatia in the European qualifying campaign, there was only one game in which the two teams failed to score at both ends.
Both teams play open football. That is exactly the kind of game I expect from this head-to-head meeting. An exchange of goals looks a perfectly logical outcome of this contest.
Prediction: Both teams to score – Yes – odds 1.71
The four selections sit in a narrow band between 1.71 and 2.24, with two of them combining a double chance and a cap on goals rather than taking a straight winner.
