Zoma Rejects Bremen and Augsburg Offers to Stay Loyal to Nuremberg

Mohamed Alì Zoma turned down interest from two Bundesliga clubs to remain with 1. FC Nürnberg, a decision the striker now calls the right one for his career. He addressed the offers directly in an interview with Sport Bild.

“It was not an easy situation for me at the start,” Zoma said, “but now I feel really good about the decision. I have a responsibility here because the team and the coaching staff have faith in me.”

The interest from Germany’s elite division carried weight for the 22-year-old regardless of his final choice. “There was interest from the Bundesliga from Werder Bremen and FC Augsburg. That was special,” he revealed. Zoma remains under contract at the club until 2029. Italian media have also linked him to VfB Stuttgart in recent weeks.

Nuremberg are seeing the benefit of his commitment. Across the first six league games of the current season, including a fixture against Dynamo Dresden, the quick right-footed forward has scored six goals, underlining his quality in front of the net.

His form has drawn attention back in Italy. Zoma earned his first call-up to the Italy national team, and Gazzetta dello Sport ran a feature on him titled “An Italian is enchanting Germany.” The publication described him as an “attacante” from “Germania,” a line that also caught the eye of Nuremberg head coach Miroslav Klose.

Klose on Zoma: “If only he knew everything he can do”

Klose’s reputation in Italy explains much of the southern interest. His five seasons at Lazio still carry weight there, and he addressed the sudden attention with a smile. “They did not have him on their radar at all, and then all of a sudden they read Nuremberg and know who the coach there is,” Klose said.

The 2014 World Cup winner has no doubts about his forward’s ceiling. “If only he knew everything he can do…” Klose added, a comment that speaks to the belief inside the club’s coaching staff.

From Serie C to the Bundesliga radar

Zoma joined Nuremberg in the summer of 2025 from third-division side Albinoleffe, based near Bergamo. The transfer fee was modest at 800,000 euros. Early struggles gave way to a productive debut campaign, where he scored 14 goals in 29 appearances.

Last summer, Nuremberg’s officials set a asking price of 20 million euros for their forward. No club met that valuation. Given his current scoring rate and the growing interest from Serie A watchers, his market value looks set to climb further.
