Aston Villa Move to Secure Lamare Bogarde with New Contract

Aston Villa are reportedly preparing a new contract offer for midfielder Lamare Bogarde, looking to tie down one of their academy products despite significant interest from rival clubs over the summer.

The Premier League set a new spending record this summer at £3.4bn, with Villa among the biggest spenders alongside Chelsea, Manchester City, and Tottenham Hotspur. According to Kieran Maguire, Villa spent £297m on new signings while offloading 14 players for a combined £294m, bringing in as many as 11 new faces including Ibrahim Mbaye, Johan Manzambi, and Nicolas Jackson.

Villa Reject Multiple Approaches for Bogarde

According to Fabrizio Romano, Villa rebuffed several approaches for Bogarde during the transfer window. Ipswich Town and Brighton & Hove Albion were among the clubs that registered interest, with a number of European sides also monitoring the situation.

Bogarde came through Villa’s youth academy and has accumulated 63 senior appearances for the club across all competitions. At 22, he offers Unai Emery a dual-position option, capable of operating as a defensive midfielder or at right-back.

Bogarde Retention Part of a Broader Rebuild

Villa have lost key players including Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins this summer. The midfield has been reinforced by the arrivals of Leon Goretzka and Joao Gomes, and locking in Bogarde’s future would give Emery another dependable option as he works to integrate a largely new squad.

That integration is already being tested. Villa have lost both of their opening Premier League fixtures and currently sit at the foot of the table. Retaining a versatile, homegrown player like Bogarde carries practical and structural value as the squad finds its footing.
