Neymar Misses Out on Brazil Friendlies
Carlo Ancelotti has excluded Neymar from the latest Brazil squad for upcoming friendlies against France and Croatia. The 34-year-old forward recently suffered from muscle fatigue while playing for Santos FC, preventing the national team coach from evaluating his fitness in person during a recent scouting mission.
Neymar remains the all-time leading scorer for the Selecao with 79 goals. He has struggled for consistency since returning to Santos last year following a severe knee ligament injury sustained in October 2023. Ancelotti clarified that the door remains open for the 2026 World Cup provided the attacker reaches full fitness.
“Neymar can be at the World Cup if he’s 100%,” Ancelotti said. “I didn’t call him up because he’s not 100%. Neymar has to be training and playing.”
Fresh Faces in Attack
While the veteran star remains sidelined, the squad features 19-year-old Endrick and a debut call-up for Brentford striker Igor Thiago. These selections signal a shift toward younger offensive options as the five-time world champions prepare for their summer schedule, which includes a meeting with Egypt before their World Cup opener against Morocco on June 13.
