PCS Spring 2023, is an A-Tier online tournament between teams form Asia-Pacific, and 12 teams will compete not only for a map pool of 80.000 dollars, but most importantly, the winner will guarantee a spot at MSI, Mid-Season Invitational 2023 in Cooper Box Arena in London, a tournament that will take place later on May. Out of the 12 teams participating in this tournament, 10 were invited from the organization of the tournament: Beyond Gaming, CTBC Flying Oyster, Deep Cross Gaming, Dewish Team, Frank Esports, Impunity, J Team, Hell Pigs, PSG Talon, SEM9 WPE. And 2 teams from LCO Split 1.
In LCO Split 1, it´s an A-Tier tournament from Australia, featuring 8 australian teams, Chiefs Esports Club, Dire Wolves, Ground Zero, Kanga Esports, MAMMOTH Esports Club, Peace, Pentanet.gg and Team Bliss. Those 8 teams will fight not only for a prize pool of 30.000 dollars, but most importantly, the top 2 teams will guarantee a spot at PCS Spring 2023, and the format from this tournament is divided into 3 stages, the regular season, the group stage and the playoffs stage. In the regular season, all teams will play in a single round robin format group, all teams will play against each other, meaning that each and every single team will play 7 matches, all BO1 matches, and the teams for Stage 2 will be seeding. This means that the position on the leaderboard from stage 1 will influence in stage 2 and the reason why is that the stage 2 is a group stage, where the 8 teams will be divided in 2 groups with 4 teams each, and in each group, we should have 2 teams from the upper half of the leaderboard from the stage 1, and 2 teams form the lower half of the leaderboard. But this time in these groups is a double elimination bracket, meaning that 2 wins will get you into the playoffs stage, but 2 losses will get you eliminated, all matches were BO3. Firstly we will be having 2 opening matches, the winners from the opening matches faced each other in the winner´s match, and the winner from that match was the group stage winner, but still will have to play in the final match between the 2 qualified teams from the group to see which is going first and which is going second. And the winner will get a major advantage since it will advance to the playoffs stage. However, on the other hand, the losers from opening matches, also faced each other in the elimination´s match, the loser from the match, got fourth placed in the group and was the first team of the group getting eliminated. The winner from the elimination match and the loser from the winner´s match also faced each other on an all or nothing decider match, also a BO3 match, that will decide everything, because the winner from that match will get second placed in the group stage, but still will have a word to say against the winner from the winner´s match and will have an opportunity to get first placed in the group, while the loser will get third placed in the group stage and will be eliminated from the competition. When it comes to the playoffs stage, we will have a double elimination bracket, with all matches being BO5, and the winner from group A will play against second placed from group B, and the winner from group B will play against second placed from group A. In these playoffs we will have second opportunity for teams already with a loss in this competition, so only 2 losses will get you eliminated, but still, the winner from the upper bracket final, the undefeated team from the tournament so far will be going into the grand finals and will play against the lower bracket final´s winner, which will be already a team with a single loss, but despite that, no matter who ins the match, the 2 finalists will get qualified for PCS Spring 2023, and the winner will get the major prize of 15.000 dollars, while the runner up will win 10.000 dollars.
In the main event in PCS Spring 2023, the event itself has 2 stages, the group stage and the playoffs stage, and firstly, the 10 invited teams, not included the LCO qualified teams, will all participate in the group stage which will be a double round robin group stage format. This means that every single team will play against each other twice, so every team will play 20 matches, and all matches will be BO1. And only the top 6 teams will go through the playoffs stage, but in different stages, the first and second placed will advance directly into the semifinals, the third and fourth placed teams will play against the 2 qualified LCO teams, and fifth and sixth placed will go into Loser´s round 1.
When it comes to the playoffs stage that´s where all the fun will start, firstly we will have a double elimination bracket, meaning that there will be second chances for teams already with a loss, because only 2 losses will get you out of the competition, and all matches will be BO5. In the upper bracket quarterfinals, the 4th placed in the group stage will play LCO´s winner, and the 3rd placed from group stage will play LCO´s runner up, and the losers from both those matches will play against 5th placed from group stage and 6th placed from group stage respectively into the lower bracket, where we will find the first 2 eliminated teams from the playoffs which will be the losers from those matches. The winner from the first match in the upper bracket quarterfinals will play against the winner from the group stage in the semifinals, and the winner from the second match from the quarterfinals will play against the runner up from the group stage in the semifinals. The winners will always advance to the upper bracket and the losers will go into the lower bracket, and avance if winning the match, but getting eliminated if they lose them. We will feature in the grand finals, the winner from the upper bracket finals, which will be and undefeated team from the tournament so far, facing the lower bracket final´s winner, which will be a team already with a single loss in the competition. Those two teams will be facing each other in the grand finals, in a BO5 match, and the winner will be crowned champion of PCS Spring 2023, and will win the biggest prize of 30.000 dollars, but most importantly, win a free ticket to the United Kingdom, to participate in the Mid Season Invitational that will take place later in May and competing against some of the best teams in the world like G2 Esports, who already got there after winning LEC Winter.
