The largest event of the first half of the year, Mid-Season Invitational is a vital part of League of Legends' esports ecosystem. Strategically located between all of the major region's split, Mid-Season Invitational exists as a mini-World Cup event for the internationally most skilled contenders. Located in Busan, South Korea, the event brings back the liveliness of LoL esports by finally featuring a live audience in an international offline event.
This year's Mid-Season Invitational is set to host 11 teams as the LCL representatives, Unicorns of Love, are forced to skip the event due to the regrettable circumstances regarding Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The participants will battle for a minimum prize pool of $250 000 - which can potentially increase as in-game purchases all contribute towards the event's total prize pool.
The tournament is divided into three stages. In an addition to the Group stage splitting the teams into three separate groups, the Group and Rumble stages will feature a double round-robin, best-of-1 matches format. Only the four strongest teams will make it to the event's Playoffs where the winner will be decided in a single-elimination bracket - and a series of best-of-5 matches.
