Key Betting Angles
- Germany’s goal machine: With nine goals scored in just two matches and a goal difference of +7, Germany are the tournament’s standout attacking force so far. Denys Undav has scored three times across those two games, and with Ecuador next up — a side yet to score in open play — expect the Germans to be heavy favourites at MetLife Stadium on 25 June.
- Mexico’s clean-sheet run could be tested: El Tri head into matchday three having conceded zero goals, but they face a Czech Republic side that still have an outside chance of qualification. Czech Republic must win; they are unlikely to sit deep, which could create space for Mexico’s counter-attack but also leave them exposed for the first time.
- Group C deadlock at the top — Brazil vs Scotland is crucial: Brazil and Morocco are level on four points apiece going into their respective final group games. Scotland, on three points, face Brazil knowing only a win will do. Having beaten Haiti and kept Morocco goalless for 88 minutes before conceding early, Scotland are not without merit, but Brazil’s Vinícius and Cunha combination is dangerous.
- Messi on a hat-trick alert in Group J: Lionel Messi already struck a hat-trick against Algeria and faces Austria in today’s evening kick-off (22 June, 6:00pm BST). Austria are solid — they beat Jordan 3–1 — but Messi’s form means he must be considered seriously for anytime and first-goalscorer markets.
- Group G is wide open — Belgium’s lack of cutting edge is a concern: Belgium have drawn both of their matches — including a goalless stalemate against Iran — without scoring from open play (their only goal came via an own goal). Iran have two draws and face a must-not-lose fixture against Egypt on 26 June, while Belgium must beat New Zealand to keep their qualification hopes alive. Both matches could have significant totals-under appeal given the defensive tendencies on display so far.
