Key Betting Angles
- Mexico and the USA are the standout group leaders. Mexico have kept two consecutive clean sheets on home soil — including at the Estadio Azteca — and lead Group A with a perfect six points. The United States are equally imperious in Group D with six points and a +5 goal difference, conceding just once. Both sides appear nailed-on to advance as group winners, making their knockout-round prices worth monitoring early.
- Germany’s goal-scoring firepower is a serious statement. A 7–1 demolition of Curaçao, with seven different attacking contributors — including Havertz, Musiala and Nmecha — signals that Julian Nagelsmann’s side are operating at a high level. Their Matchday 2 clash against Ivory Coast (tonight, 9:00pm BST) will be a far sterner test, but the goal threat alone makes Germany attractive in overs markets going forward.
- Canada’s 6–0 thrashing of Qatar is a goal-difference windfall. Jonathan David bagged a hat-trick and Canada now sit level on points with Switzerland in Group B but boast a vastly superior goal difference (+6 vs +3). The head-to-head decider between these two — 24 June, 8:00pm BST — is effectively a Matchday 3 final, with the group winner likely claiming a favourable last-16 draw.
- Group C is set up for a tense finale. Brazil and Morocco are level on four points apiece, separated only by goal difference, ahead of their respective Matchday 3 fixtures. Scotland, on three points, still have a mathematical chance of topping the group if results go their way against Brazil. With Saibari already scoring twice for Morocco, the North Africans’ defensive resilience and clinical edge makes them a live dark-horse proposition deep into the tournament.
- Lionel Messi’s hat-trick in Argentina’s opener sets a menacing tone. Three goals across the 17th, 60th and 76th minutes — all from open play — demonstrated that Messi remains Argentina’s decisive presence. Argentina vs Austria on 22 June (6:00pm BST) is a genuine group decider and should produce goals given Austria’s own 3–1 win over Jordan. The top-scorer market is worth revisiting with Messi already on three in a single outing.
