Vinicius Junior has reportedly turned down the latest contract offer from Real Madrid, sending the transfer saga toward a critical decision point and handing Arsenal a significant opening to complete what would be the biggest signing in their history.
Talks between the Brazilian winger, his camp, and Real Madrid are ongoing this week. The core question is whether Vinicius Junior will sign an improved deal at the Bernabeu. His stated preference is to stay, but Madrid have made clear they will sell the 26-year-old rather than allow him to walk away for nothing if an extension cannot be agreed.
Vinicius Junior Rejects Real Madrid’s Contract Offer
Former Real Madrid striker and sporting director Predrag Mijatovic confirmed the rejection in quotes carried by Mundo Deportivo. Madrid’s offer stands at €22m per season across a five-year deal running until 2031. Vinicius has turned it down.
“Now we know what Madrid is offering him, and Vinicius has rejected it. At this point in the summer, with one year left on his contract, this whole situation clearly tells me that Vinicius isn’t planning to renew.”
With one year remaining on his current deal, Vinicius could theoretically leave on a free transfer next summer, which makes the gap between Madrid’s asking price and market logic difficult to reconcile. Reports from Spain suggest Real Madrid want €170m if a sale happens this window. Arsenal, for their part, are unwilling to go beyond €150m.
Arsenal Prepared to Restructure Their Wage Ceiling
Arsenal are fully prepared to dismantle their existing wage structure to accommodate Vinicius Junior, making him the highest-paid player in the club’s history by a considerable margin. Mijatovic’s comments reinforce the credibility of that pursuit.
“He can ask for 30, 35, or 25, it doesn’t matter. At this point, it doesn’t matter anymore; he’s already considering other offers, which he obviously has because he’s a fantastic player. Arsenal are very interested in signing him. I have reports from England that Arsenal are planning to break the bank to sign him.”
Mijatovic also addressed what happens if Madrid fail to secure a renewal:
“If he doesn’t want to renew, we’ll have to make a significant transfer fee. We’ll see what happens, but by August, things are still uncertain. If you can’t convince him to renew, we’ll have to consider getting a lot of money for him.”
