Defensive Collapse Costs Liverpool at Molineux
Virgil van Dijk focused his rage on Federico Chiesa after Wolves snatched a dramatic 2-1 victory at Molineux. The defeat prevented Liverpool from climbing into the Premier League top four. While Mohamed Salah managed an 83rd-minute equalizer to cancel out Rodrigo Gomes‘ opener, a 94th-minute strike from Andre secured the points for Rob Edwards‘ side.
The Liverpool captain was visibly incensed by the winning goal. Alisson attempted to find Federico Chiesa with a pass, but after the pair failed to connect, the Italian winger did not track back to recover the ball. Andre eventually capitalized, seeing his shot deflect past the Brazilian goalkeeper to spark wild celebrations in the Midlands.
“Conceding goals is always frustrating,” Van Dijk told TNT Sport. “Obviously we’ve come on the back of a couple of clean sheets and I think defensively we have been very solid. But it is what it is and we have to move quickly on because we come back here in a couple of days and we want to do well in the FA Cup as well and we have to show a reaction.”
Pundits Debate Blame for Winning Goal
Post-match analysis centered on the errors leading to Andre‘s winner. Steven Gerrard highlighted a lack of urgency from Alisson and the midfield. The former Reds captain noted that the clearance from the goalkeeper lacked quality and was compounded by a lethargic reaction to the second ball.

The resulting poor contact allowed Andre to seize the opportunity, though Warnock acknowledged the shot required a wicked deflection to find the net.
