Valencia Close In on Javier Aguirre as New Head Coach

Valencia are closing in on Javier Aguirre as their next head coach, with the Mexican emerging as the clear frontrunner to replace Carlos Corberan on the touchline.

Marca reports that Valencia opened talks with Aguirre’s representatives several days ago after sounding out a number of candidates. Friday brings a decisive meeting between both parties, and with each side keen to move quickly, an agreement could follow soon after.

Both the club and the former Egypt boss’s camp are keeping details under wraps. Sources close to the talks describe them as tightly guarded, with a handful of sporting and contractual points still needing resolution.

Valencia are not rushing the process. Oscar Sanchez will remain in interim charge for the upcoming match against Real Sociedad, and the club plans to use the three-week international break to integrate their new coach at Paterna and start working with the squad.

A Coach Who Knows LaLiga

Valencia’s hierarchy views Aguirre as the right fit for this phase of the season. He brings vast experience, a strong character and deep familiarity with Spanish football, having previously managed Osasuna, Atletico Madrid, Real Zaragoza, Espanyol, Leganes and Real Mallorca.

Aguirre is receptive to a return to Spain, and finances do not appear to be a stumbling block. He wants a deal covering the rest of the current campaign, with an option for an additional season tied to specific targets, chiefly survival in the top flight.
