The 2026/27 Europa League league phase draw begins on 28 August 2026 at 13:00 CEST (12:00 in the UK, 14:00 in Kyiv, 11:00 GMT, 07:00 ET). Note that the Europa League draw is the first half of Friday’s session in Monaco: the UEFA Conference League league phase draw follows immediately afterwards at the same venue.
Europa League draw 2026/27: the 36 qualified teams
Thirteen sides went straight into the league phase, a slot among them reserved for the Conference League title holders. Another 12 came through qualifying, which culminated in the play-off round, with second legs played on Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 August. The 36-team field was completed by 11 clubs transferring across from the Champions League third qualifying round and play-offs. The stage at which each team entered qualifying was set by its association club coefficient ranking, and every tie was played over two legs.
France, England and Italy are all well represented. Lyon, Marseille and Rennes carry the French flag; Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Sunderland the English one. Crystal Palace step up after their Conference League triumph in May, while Aston Villa will not defend the Europa League title they won last season, having qualified for the Champions League through their domestic finish. Milan and Juventus fly the Italian flag, with Leverkusen and Hoffenheim from Germany, Benfica and Torreense from Portugal, Real Sociedad and Celta from Spain, Olympiacos and OFI Crete from Greece, AZ Alkmaar and N.E.C. from the Netherlands, Sparta Praha and Viktoria Plzeň from Czechia, Salzburg and Sturm Graz from Austria, Anderlecht and Union SG from Belgium, and Jagiellonia and Lech Poznań from Poland. Celtic (Scotland), GNK Dinamo (Croatia), Ferencváros (Hungary), Beşiktaş (Türkiye), Omonia (Cyprus), Celje (Slovenia), H. Beer-Sheva (Israel), Lillestrøm (Norway), Levski Sofia (Bulgaria) and Ararat-Armenia (Armenia) complete the line-up.
The list is provisional: it is based purely on sporting performance and does not account for any disciplinary or licensing matters, so final admittance of clubs to the competition is still pending. All Russian teams remain suspended from UEFA competitions until further notice.
How the Europa League league phase draw works
The 36 clubs are split into four pots of nine, seeded on their UEFA club coefficient ranking. Each team is drawn against eight different opponents — two from each of the four pots, one at home and one away in every case — for a total of four home games and four away games. Teams from the same association cannot be drawn against each other in the league phase, which means the three English clubs, the three French clubs and the other domestic pairings can only meet from the knockout rounds onwards.

Once the eight matchdays are complete, the top eight in the single 36-team table go straight through to the round of 16. The clubs finishing ninth to 24th contest the knockout phase play-offs, while the 12 teams ranked 25th to 36th are eliminated.
Europa League draw: key dates for the 2026/27 season
This is the 56th edition of the competition and the 18th since the UEFA Cup was renamed the UEFA Europa League. The third campaign under the league phase format kicked off on 9 July 2026 and runs all the way to the final in Frankfurt on 26 May 2027. UEFA notes that dates are subject to change, and the full fixture list with kick-off times will follow after the ceremony.

The final will be staged at Stadion Frankfurt in Germany. Originally opened in 1925 and upgraded several times since, the arena recently hosted five games at UEFA EURO 2024, as well as matches at the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
Europa League draw preview: what is at stake
There is plenty riding on the eight fixtures that come out of the pots in Monaco. The Europa League trophy is, at 15kg, the heaviest piece of silverware UEFA hands out, and the 2026/27 winners also earn a place in the league phase of the 2027/28 UEFA Champions League if they have not already qualified through their domestic competition. On top of that comes a meeting with the 2026/27 Champions League winners in the 2027 UEFA Super Cup.
Pot 1 is loaded with heavyweights — Leverkusen, Benfica, Juventus, Milan, Lyon, AZ Alkmaar, Olympiacos, Real Sociedad and Marseille — but the seeding tells only part of the story this year. Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Sunderland all sit in Pot 3 despite the Premier League’s recent record in the competition, which means the top seeds face a genuinely awkward set of possible opponents. With Celtic, Salzburg, Anderlecht and Sparta Praha in Pot 2 and Beşiktaş and Hoffenheim lurking in Pot 4, there is no comfortable route through the league phase and no obvious favourite until the fixtures are on the board.
