Friday’s session in Monaco is a combined event: the Europa League league phase draw is made first, with the Conference League draw following at the same venue.
Conference League draw 2026/27: the 36 qualified teams
Unlike the Champions League and Europa League, the Conference League has no direct qualifiers — every one of the 36 participants earned their place on the pitch. The competition’s own play-offs are staged over four rounds, with 48 clubs reaching the final play-off round; the 24 winners advance to the league phase and are joined by the 12 sides that lost in the Europa League’s final play-off round. Second legs were played on 27 August, less than 24 hours before the draw.
Denmark leads the way with four entrants — Copenhagen, Midtjylland, Nordsjælland and Aarhus — while Belgium (Gent, Sint-Truidense), the Netherlands (Ajax, Twente) and Switzerland (Lugano, Thun) each have two. Atalanta represent Italy, Braga Portugal, Freiburg Germany, Monaco France, Getafe Spain, Brighton England, Panathinaikos Greece, Trabzonspor Türkiye, Crvena Zvezda Serbia and Hearts Scotland. The rest of the field is drawn from across the continent: Pafos (Cyprus), Jablonec (Czechia), KuPS Kuopio (Finland), Iberia Tbilisi (Georgia), Lincoln Red Imps (Gibraltar), Kairat Almaty (Kazakhstan), Riga (Latvia), Kauno Žalgiris (Lithuania), Brann (Norway), Universitatea Craiova (Romania), Mjällby (Sweden), Hajduk Split (Croatia), Borac (Bosnia and Herzegovina), CSKA Sofia (Bulgaria), Egnatia (Albania) and Inter Escaldes (Andorra).
The list is provisional: it is based purely on sporting performance and does not account for any disciplinary or licensing matters, so final admittance of clubs is still pending. All Russian teams remain suspended from UEFA competitions until further notice.
How the Conference League league phase draw works
The Conference League uses a different structure from UEFA’s other two competitions: the 36 clubs are split into six pots of six rather than four pots of nine, seeded on club coefficient rankings established at the start of the season. Each team is drawn against one opponent from each of the six pots, giving six fixtures rather than eight. For the home-and-away allocation, the pots are paired — one with two, three with four, five with six — and every club plays one opponent from each pairing at home and the other away, for three home games and three away games in total.
- Pot 1: Atalanta (ITA), Braga (POR), Ajax (NED), Freiburg (GER), Monaco (FRA), Copenhagen (DEN)
- Pot 2: Midtjylland (DEN), Crvena Zvezda (SRB), Gent (BEL), Panathinaikos (GRE), Pafos (CYP), Brighton (ENG)
- Pot 3: Lugano (SUI), Getafe (ESP), KuPS Kuopio (FIN), Twente (NED), Lincoln Red Imps (GIB), Borac (BIH)
- Pot 4: Sint-Truidense (BEL), Brann (NOR), Hearts (SCO), Kairat Almaty (KAZ), Trabzonspor (TUR), Universitatea Craiova (ROU)
- Pot 5: Riga (LVA), Hajduk Split (CRO), Jablonec (CZE), Nordsjælland (DEN), Aarhus (DEN), Inter Escaldes (AND)
- Pot 6: Thun (SUI), CSKA Sofia (BUL), Kauno Žalgiris (LTU), Mjällby (SWE), Iberia Tbilisi (GEO), Egnatia (ALB)
Several restrictions apply. Clubs from the same association cannot be drawn against each other, and no team may face more than two opponents from any one other association — a relevant condition with four Danish clubs in the field. By decision of the UEFA Executive Committee, teams from Gibraltar and Spain may not meet, which rules out a Lincoln Red Imps v Getafe tie. The UEFA Club Competitions Committee has also decided that the same fixture cannot be repeated with the same home team for three consecutive seasons, although the same two clubs can still be paired at the other team’s ground.
The draw itself is executed fully digitally through dedicated automated software, with the whole process reviewed and checked by an appointed external auditor. The software draws a Pot 1 team and their six opponents in pot order, then repeats the process for the rest of Pot 1 and the remaining pots, always ensuring a valid allocation that fits the competition calendar. Opponents and home or away status are revealed pot by pot, starting with Pot 1 and finishing with Pot 6.
Conference League draw: key dates for the 2026/27 season
This is the sixth edition of the Conference League and the third under the league phase format. The campaign kicked off on 9 July 2026 and runs to the final in Istanbul on 2 June 2027. The league phase produces 108 matches in total — 18 per matchday across six matchdays — played on Thursdays with kick-off times of 16:30, 18:45 and 21:00 CET. UEFA notes that dates are subject to change, and the full calendar will be published no later than Sunday 30 August 2026.
- Matchday 1: 15 October 2026
- Matchday 2: 22 October 2026
- Matchday 3: 5 November 2026
- Matchday 4: 26 November 2026
- Matchday 5: 10 December 2026
- Matchday 6: 17 December 2026
- Knockout phase play-offs: 18 & 25 February 2027
- Round of 16: 11 & 18 March 2027
- Quarter-finals: 8 & 15 April 2027
- Semi-finals: 29 April & 6 May 2027
- Final: 2 June 2027, Istanbul
After the six matchdays, the top eight in the single 36-team table go straight through to the round of 16. The clubs placed ninth to 24th contest the knockout phase play-offs, while the 12 teams ranked 25th to 36th are eliminated. Two further draws follow: the knockout round play-off draw and the round of 16 draw that completes the bracket on 26 February 2027.
Conference League draw preview: what is at stake
The prize on offer is more than the trophy itself, which stands 57.5cm tall and weighs 11kg. The 2026/27 winners also take a place in the league phase of the 2027/28 Europa League, provided they have not already qualified for the Champions League or Europa League through their domestic competition — the route Crystal Palace took after their triumph in May.
English clubs have won three of the past four editions, and Brighton arrive as the sole Premier League representative, seeded in Pot 2. Above them, Pot 1 is headed by Atalanta, Ajax, Monaco, Braga, Copenhagen and Freiburg — the last of those returning to Beşiktaş Park territory after losing the 2026 Europa League final 3-0 to Aston Villa at the very stadium that will stage this season’s Conference League decider. With six pots instead of four, the spread of quality is wider than in UEFA’s other competitions and the seeded sides should expect a manageable route, but with only six fixtures each there is little margin for error and no obvious favourite until the pairings are on the board.
Beşiktaş Park, home of the 16-time Turkish Süper Lig champions, stands on the north side of the Bosphorus. As well as last season’s Europa League final, it hosted the 2019 UEFA Super Cup, when Liverpool beat Chelsea 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
