Kairat’s defense won’t withstand the pressure from the “Kings of Bratislava,” and will Mourinho get the better of van Persie? Today, August 12, we’ll find out what happens in the second legs of the third qualifying round of the Champions League. We’ve selected the most interesting and spectacular matches for you, and, of course, the bets on them.
Viktoria Plzeň vs. Rangers
Viktoria’s chances of advancing to the next round are minimal. The team hasn’t won in four of its last five matches and regularly makes defensive errors, especially at home. While all of their key players are available, any defensive mistake, given their 0-3 deficit, could practically extinguish any hope for Viktoria Plzeň to keep the tie alive.
Rangers head to Plzeň with a comfortable advantage and a streak of scoring in every match of the current qualification campaign. Despite their modest away results in the league, Russell Martin’s side has shown efficiency in recent games and knows how to control the tempo. The Scottish side’s leader, Tavernier, is dangerous from set pieces and in the final third, and their ability to step up after halftime could definitively kill the intrigue.
For Viktoria, the key will be to score quickly while maintaining a defensive balance to avoid losing their chances before the second half is even halfway over. But it’s very likely that Rangers will settle things earlier, perhaps without expending more energy than necessary to secure the win.
Match Bet: Rangers Double Chance (X2) with odds of 1.98
Fenerbahçe vs. Feyenoord
After a strong preseason, Fenerbahçe couldn’t maintain the same rhythm and lost their first official match of the season to Feyenoord (1-2). The Turkish side played well, but a surplus of defensive errors led to a predictable defeat. The backline, with several players struggling for form, remains the team’s main problem, and even the home advantage might not be enough to see them through.
As for Feyenoord, the team has bounced back from a series of losses with a winning streak and clearly has no intention of stopping. After their victory over Fenerbahçe, Robin van Persie opted against a major rotation and defeated NAC (2-0) over the weekend.
The Feyenoord coach’s tactical model, which leaves spaces in defense, is generally considered favorable for Mourinho, but he couldn’t capitalize on it in the first leg, and it’s unlikely to happen in the return leg either. I’m confident that neither team will sit back, and we can expect a high-scoring match.

Paphos vs. Dynamo Kyiv
Paphos is a young project that is currently at its peak. This is undoubtedly due to their investment in head coach Juan Carlos Carcedo, a longtime assistant to Unai Emery. Carcedo led his new team to their first title in 2024, the Cyprus Cup. This success allowed them to compete in Europe a year ago, where they reached the Round of 16 in the Conference League. This additional workload didn’t stop them from becoming champions on the domestic stage, and now they face another challenge.
Dynamo Kyiv began their new season in the Champions League with two identical and impressive 3-0 victories. However, their opponent then was a clearly weak Hamrun Spartans team. After the Maltese side, in their nominal home match at the Lubin Arena, Dynamo showed a frankly weak performance. Not only did they fail to score, but they also conceded late in the match, losing 0-1.
Paphos has already shown they can play defensively and hit on the counter-attack, exploiting their opponent’s mistakes. Dynamo has yet to demonstrate a clear plan for breaking down a tight, low block, so goals might be at a premium; their single shot on target in the first game is a clear testament to this. We don’t expect much spectacle here: the Cypriots will play to their advantage, and in the end, we’ll see very few goals.

Club Brugge vs. Salzburg
Salzburg is no longer the dominant force even in their own country. In this matchup against Brugge, the club was not initially considered the favorite. The result of the first leg confirmed this: the Austrians lost 0-1 on their home turf and are on the verge of an early Champions League exit. The start of the new season has been difficult for the team overall; they failed to win in half of their last six matches, and two of their three victories were against clearly weak opponents. Furthermore, the club has shown poor defensive performance in European competition, failing to keep a clean sheet in their last 12 Champions League matches.
Club Brugge has already secured four victories this new season and is ready to continue in the same fashion. The team looks stable; their defeat to Mechelen in the league seems more like a fluke.
The Belgians can seal the deal at home. In front of their fans, Brugge rarely slips up. In their last nine home matches across all competitions, the team has seven wins and only one loss. Salzburg’s chances, even for a draw, are minimal.
Match Bet: Club Brugge Win with odds of 1.65
Slovan vs. Kairat
Vladimír Weiss’s side has had a decent start to the season. The team has played five matches, with two wins, two draws, and one loss. The “Kings of Bratislava” performed excellently in the previous Champions League round, defeating Zrinjski on aggregate (4-0, 2-2). However, in their first encounter with the Kazakhstani representatives, Slovan lost 0-1 away to Kairat. At home, the Bratislava side is solid, having not lost to opponents in 8 matches.
Kairat, on the other hand, is in great form, with four consecutive victories, three of which were clean sheets, including their success in the first leg against Slovan. In the Champions League qualifiers, Kairat has already overcome two opponents: first, Olimpija (1-1, 2-0), and then Finnish side KuPS (0-2, 3-0). It’s worth noting that Rafael Urazbakhtin’s team has been strong in home matches but has struggled away, with a draw and a loss on the road.
Slovan will attack with a full force and try to break down the opponent’s defense in the first half. Kairat may take advantage of the open space to score, but the home team’s higher class and powerful attack will ultimately secure the victory. Therefore, we propose taking a risk and betting on a high total.
