Lyon Star Tyler Morton Eyes England Senior Debut
Former Liverpool academy graduate Tyler Morton is making a compelling case for a senior England call-up following a dominant debut season in Ligue 1. The 23-year-old midfielder, who joined Lyon in a deal worth approximately £15 million last summer, has seen his market value skyrocket after proving his worth in French football.
Despite Arne Slot initially blocking his exit due to the failed pursuit of Martin Zubimendi, Morton struggled for minutes at Anfield last term. “A place in the England squad for the World Cup? It isn’t something that I’m obsessing about on a daily basis, but it is an objective to play for my country,” Morton stated. “Alex Scott is a player with whom I was close, and seeing him called up gives me a lot of confidence.”
The path to the England midfield remains competitive. Brassell notes that Adam Wharton remains a primary rival for a similar role in the squad. While Crystal Palace may demand upwards of £60 million for Wharton amidst interest from Manchester United, Morton is providing a high-value alternative through his performances in one of Europe’s top five leagues.
