The Spanish giants are set to face the Reds in the Champions League group stage on Tuesday, 4 November.

Alexander-Arnold, who left Liverpool in June for a reported £8.4 million, addressed his emotions ahead of the match.

“No matter what, my feelings won’t change towards Liverpool. I have got memories there that will last me a lifetime and no matter how I am received, that won’t change.”

The 27-year-old made 354 appearances for his boyhood club, playing his final match in May against Crystal Palace before lifting the Premier League trophy.

Alexander-Arnold was one of three senior Liverpool players—alongside Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah—who entered the final year of their contracts last season. While Van Dijk and Salah signed new deals, Alexander-Arnold’s departure sparked criticism from some fans.

Posters questioning his loyalty appeared outside Anfield, despite his contributions to the club’s success, including two league titles, the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup.

“I think whichever way I am received is the decision of the fans. I will always love the club. I will always be a fan of the club. I will always be thankful for the opportunities [Liverpool gave me] and everything that we achieved together will live with me forever.”

Alexander-Arnold also revealed he wouldn’t celebrate if he scored against his former club and that many of his ex-teammates, including Andy Robertson, Mohamed Salah, and Ibrahima Konaté, had contacted him after the Champions League draw.

“They were just laughing. I think everybody knew it was going to happen. We will put our emotions to one side and play the best football we can.”

Since joining Real Madrid, Alexander-Arnold has faced challenges, including a hamstring injury sustained in September. He has yet to make an appearance for the Spanish giants and is likely to start on the bench against Liverpool.

Despite his struggles, Alexander-Arnold praised Jude Bellingham for helping him adapt to life in Madrid.

“He is a great lad and a great friend. It’s good to have someone else that is English here. We both understand each other very well and know each other very well. He made settling in a lot easier for me.”
