Tottenham have no plans to launch another major spending spree in January, even with their winless start to the football season raising questions about squad depth. A report from Football Insider indicates the north London club will avoid heavy outlay in the winter window, despite suggestions that both the attack and defence need reinforcement. Roberto De Zerbi’s side are expected to work largely with what they already have, with doubts remaining over whether significant funds will be made available for another large-scale rebuild.
A Summer Rebuild That Drained Resources
Tottenham spent roughly £300 million this past summer, the first transfer window under De Zerbi since he signed a long-term deal in March to help steer the club away from relegation trouble. That figure does not include the loan arrival of Omar Marmoush, nor the free transfers of Marcos Senesi and Andrew Robertson, both of whom joined on Bosman deals.
Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Savio arrived as the headline big-money signings, while Jan Paul van Hecke joined from Brighton as another notable addition. Spurs were widely praised for their recruitment work, identifying targets early and closing deals efficiently to reshape the squad.
Results Have Not Matched the Investment
The season itself has told a different story. Spurs are yet to win a league game, and it took until the 3-2 home defeat to Aston Villa just before the international break for the club to register its first goals of the campaign. That result exposed ongoing issues at both ends of the pitch, with the attacking setup drawing particular scrutiny and the defence also flagged as an area that may need support heading into January.

No Appetite for Another Big-Money Window
Spurs have been linked with several attackers and defenders ahead of the winter window, fuelling speculation that another heavy spend could follow the summer blueprint. Reports suggest otherwise. De Zerbi is expected to work primarily with his current options rather than push for fresh signings on a similar scale.
Endrick has been mentioned in loose connection with the club, while recent reporting has effectively closed the door on an ambitious move for Julian Alvarez. Neither name appears to be a serious target at this stage, even with suggestions that Spurs could sell a forward before bringing in a new striker.
Richarlison remains a player the club have considered moving on from, a situation that has persisted since the summer. Links to defender Kim Min-jae have also been dismissed. For now, Tottenham are not planning significant business in January, though results over the coming weeks could still shift that stance.
