Pundits React to Solskjaer Rumours
Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy and ex-Aston Villa defender Stephen Warnock have dismissed the idea of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer returning to Manchester United as caretaker manager.
Speaking on Match of the Day, the duo discussed potential candidates to replace Ruben Amorim, who left the club earlier this week. Murphy labelled the rumours as “ridiculous,” while Warnock suggested the club should look for a fresh approach.
“It just seems ridiculous to go back to someone who’s already had a crack at it,” said Murphy. “United need a new direction, not a trip down memory lane.”
The discussion comes as Michael Carrick and Solskjaer are reportedly among the frontrunners for the interim role. However, Warnock argued that the club should prioritise long-term stability over short-term fixes.
“They need someone who can steady the ship and bring in a clear philosophy,” Warnock added. “Recycling old managers isn’t the answer.”
