Rumors indicate Bjergsen to comeback as player in 2022

13.09.2021, 10:36

Recent rumors in the esports community indicate that the famed 25-year-old Danish LoL player Soren “Bjergsen” Bjerg, who played mid for TSM, decided to make a comeback to competitive LoL scene and presumably join one of the LCS or even LEC rosters around 2022.

European career

Bjergsen is widely considered as one of the strongest and most popular players ever played League of Legends in the North American LCS league.

Bjerg started his professional career in 2012, when he joined Netherlands-based multigaming esports organization titled Western Wolves.

The team’s roster in Season 2 was also notable for their top laner Jakob Mebdi, nicknamed YamatoCannon. Mebdi continues to be a remarkable figure for the game’s competitive scene.

Former Bjergsen’s teammate, Jakob took part in lots of Riot Games’ official broadcasts as an analyst. He also coached a lot of teams in the past years. Yamato has been working as a coach for one of the top LoL teams from EU, Fnatic, since November 2020.

Bjergsen left Western Wolves team for the French organization Team-LDLC in June 2012.

He then played for one of the famous Danish LoL teams, Copenhagen Wolves, where Bjerg helped his team get the first victory in the tournament. He also became famous for getting his first pentakill in the EU LCS by playing his signature champion – Syndra.

Bjerg’s next team were Swedish LoL roster of Ninjas in Pyjamas, until the Dane was finally noticed for his outstanding playstyle and was recruited by one of the strongest League of Legends organizations from the United States, Team SoloMid.

NA LCS

Bjergsen joined TSM LoL’s division as a mid player to compete in the LCS in Season 3 in November 2013.

The strong Danish player even managed to win the individual competition at the third iteration of the All-Star tournament series from Riot Games, All-Star Los Angeles 2015.

In the 1v1 tournament, Bjergsen managed to defeat one of the strongest players from teams in CIS, China, and South Korea. He finished first, ahead of one of his close friends and teammates, Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng.

Soren stayed in the TSM organization for long seven years, when he finally decided to retire from competitive play in 2020. His last season was quite dramatic.

Last season

Competing in LCS 2020 Summer tournament, the North American organization managed to finish only fourth, with the 12:6 match score similar to the FlyQuest, the team which took third place in the event.

The Dane then led his team to the victory in one of the main regional events of the year, LCS 2020 Summer Playoffs. In the final match, his team was stronger than their opponents – FlyQuest, 3:2.

TSM qualified for Worlds 2020 main event from the first place in their region. But the star NA team’s performance in the main event was below average expectations.

Bjergsen announced his retirement as a player from LoL’s professional scene in October 2020, shortly after his TSM team showcased disappointing results at Worlds 2020.

Soren was part of ten LCS finals in North America. He also grabbed four MVP awards, as well as managed to finish first place 6 times in the LCS splits.

Coaching efforts

It was announced that Bjerg wanted to continue his efforts working on a coaching position at the prominent North American multigaming esports organization.

It was also previously stated that Bjerg became a co-owner of the Team SoloMid.

On a coaching position, Bjergen’s team ended up second in the LCS 2021 Spring split and third at the LCS 2021 Mid-Season Showdown event, losing 1:3 to Team Liquid in the last match.

The SoloMid team then managed to grab first place at LCS 2021 Summer, finishing ahead of many strong teams, such as 100 Thieves, Evil Geniuses, Cloud9, Team Liquid and Dignitas. This effort was not enough to qualify for the final international event of the year.

The next tournament, LCS 2021 Championship, was previously known as LCS Summer 2021 Playoffs, a part Summer Playoffs series.

Bjergsen’s organization first lost their match with the 3:1 score against Team Liquid in the upper bracket, and then lost their second match in a close game against C9, 2:3 in the lower bracket of the playoffs event.

The American region had two slots for the Worlds 2021 main event and one slot for play-in stage. TSM managed to place fourth and the fan favorites ended up not making it to the main esports event of the year.

Worlds 2021

Recently, it was confirmed that Riot Games is set to organize their premier esports event and world championship — Worlds 2021, in Iceland. The tournament will begin October 5 with the play-in stage.

The location of the Worlds 2021 event — Laugardalsholl Sport Center in Reykjavik, was previously used by the North American video game developer for two LAN competitions, 2021 Mid-Season Invitational, and VALORANT Champions Tour 2021: Stage 2 Masters — Reykjavik.
