Real Madrid have told Vinicius Junior he faces a straight choice this summer: sign their final contract offer or be sold before the transfer window closes. Spanish reports indicate that Arsenal are exploring a move for the Brazilian winger, though they have yet to submit a formal bid to Madrid.
Vinicius Jr has less than a year left on his current deal, which means he could walk away on a free transfer next summer. According to Marca, Madrid have presented a new contract and have made clear there will be no further negotiations or improvements to the terms on the table. The club will not adjust their salary structure, even given the winger’s standing at the club, but they have no intention of allowing him to leave for nothing.
During contract talks, Madrid reportedly told Vinicius Jr directly: if he does not sign, he will be sold before the deadline.
His position in the squad is under additional pressure. Yan Diomande is set to arrive from RB Leipzig in a deal worth €135 million (£115.5m) including add-ons, and the Ivory Coast international is expected to compete for the same wide role. Earlier reports from Spain also suggested Vinicius Jr wants clarity on his future this summer and prefers not to leave as a free agent.
Vinicius Jr signed for Madrid from Flamengo in 2018 as an 18-year-old in a £38.7m deal. Across 375 appearances for the club, he has scored 128 goals and contributed to 14 trophies, among them three La Liga titles and two Champions League titles.
