England International Raheem Sterling Moves to Eredivisie
Raheem Sterling has finalized a move to Feyenoord, signing a deal that runs until the conclusion of the current campaign. The 31-year-old winger arrives in Rotterdam as a free agent after mutually terminating his Chelsea contract in late January. Despite having 18 months left on his previous deal in London, the 82-cap England international opted for a fresh start elsewhere.
It has been a significant period of inactivity for the forward. Sterling last featured in a competitive fixture on the final day of the previous season during his loan spell with Arsenal. His situation at Stamford Bridge deteriorated during the first half of this year as he was sidelined from first-team activities under the management of Enzo Maresca.
New Beginnings in Rotterdam
“As a free agent, I’ve had, for the first time in a long time, the opportunity to control the next step in my career. I wanted to take my time to speak with clubs and their head coaches to better understand the role they envisioned for me and ensure that I can add real value in this next chapter. Having spoken in great detail with Robin van Persie, I’m confident that Feyenoord is a place I can be happy and establish myself as a valued member of the team. Playing abroad is a whole new challenge for me and one I’m ready to embrace. Honestly, I’m just excited to get started.”
The move represents Sterling‘s first professional stint outside of English football. By choosing the Eredivisie, he joins a side led by Robin van Persie, who played a central role in recruitment discussions. The Feyenoord manager believes the addition of such an experienced attacker will provide a significant boost to the squad’s offensive capabilities.
“Naturally, it’s a fantastic feat that we’ve managed to convince a player of Raheem’s calibre to sign with us. His football resume speaks for itself: he’s a player whose qualities can change the outcome of a game without a doubt, and I am convinced he will turn out to be a valuable addition to the team.”
