Nice survived in Ligue 1 by the narrowest of margins, edging past AS Saint-Étienne in a two-legged promotion/relegation play-off. It was Claude Puel who presided over the club’s slide toward the relegation zone, having taken charge on an interim basis back in December. Earlier on Wednesday, Nice confirmed Puel‘s departure, with the same statement clarifying that president Maurice Cohen would remain in post. The ownership picture at the Côte d’Azur club is still unsettled, but there is now at least managerial clarity.
Pantaloni arrives from FC Lorient, which he left at the end of last season following two strong campaigns at the Moustoir. After guiding Lorient to a midtable finish, he departed citing a perceived lack of trust from the club’s hierarchy. Next season, the Corsican will be on the touchline at the Allianz Riviera.
