Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has reportedly reached an agreement in principle over a new contract at Anfield, further underlining the club’s intent to secure its core players amid growing interest from Europe’s elite.
After impressing heavily at RB Leipzig, Szoboszlai arrived on Merseyside in the summer of 2023 as one of Jürgen Klopp’s final marquee signings. The Hungarian international wasted no time settling in, making 45 appearances in his debut season and contributing seven goals across all competitions.
His importance only grew under new head coach Arne Slot. Last season, Szoboszlai emerged as a cornerstone of Liverpool’s midfield, scoring eight goals in 49 appearances and playing a key role as the Reds secured their historic 20th Premier League title.

The development comes amid reported interest from European heavyweights Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, both of whom have been monitoring the midfielder’s situation closely.
Despite that attention, Szoboszlai is expected to commit his long-term future to Liverpool. His current deal runs until 2028, meaning there was no immediate pressure on the club, but Liverpool are keen to reward his performances and protect themselves from potential suitors.
At just 25 years old, the Hungarian has already made 20 Premier League starts this season, registering two goals and one assist. While those numbers only tell part of the story, his influence in controlling tempo, pressing from midfield, and progressing the ball has been invaluable.
Slot has also demonstrated his trust in Szoboszlai’s versatility, deploying him in multiple roles when required — including spells at right-back — with the midfielder excelling regardless of position.
