Kylian Mbappé etched his name in football history on Thursday night during France’s 4-0 victory over Ukraine in a European qualifier for the 2026 World Cup. The Real Madrid striker scored twice, including the decisive penalty that marked his 400th career goal for club and country. At 26 years, 10 months, and 24 days, Mbappé became the youngest player ever to achieve this milestone.

Mbappé’s goal tally includes 55 for France, 256 for Paris Saint-Germain, 27 for Monaco, and 62 for Real Madrid. He surpassed Gerd Müller, who reached 400 goals at 27 years, two months, and 17 days. Lionel Messi is third, achieving the feat at 27 years, three months, and three days.

When considering the fewest games to reach 400 goals, Mbappé ranks seventh with 537 games. He outperforms Neymar (653 games), Cristiano Ronaldo (653 games), Lewandowski (632 games), and Kane (631 games). Romário is just ahead with 533 games. Messi, Greaves, Müller, and Seeler all achieved the milestone in fewer games, with Franz Binder holding the record at 316 games.

Erling Haaland, with 331 goals in 374 games, is on track to join the 400-goal club. Averaging 0.89 goals per game, he could reach the milestone in 452 games, placing him fourth in the rankings. At 25 years old, Haaland has 664 days to score 69 more goals and surpass Mbappé’s record.
