Marco Rose Eyes Bournemouth Job as Premier League Contenders Weigh Managerial Options

Marco Rose has emerged as a strong contender to become Bournemouth‘s next manager. Sky Sport reports the 49-year-old German coach is in advanced talks with the Cherries to succeed departing boss Andoni Iraola from next summer.

Rose is currently available after leaving RB Leipzig at the end of March 2025. Bournemouth confirmed concrete discussions have taken place with the candidate.

Competition for the post is fierce. English midfield legend Frank Lampard, 47, sits in the frame and is on the verge of guiding Coventry City back to the Premier League with promotion nearly assured. Kieran McKenna of Ipswich Town and Rayo Vallecano coach Inigo Pérez are also under consideration.

Iraola’s Departure and Bournemouth’s Trajectory

Andoni Iraola confirmed his exit on Tuesday, with his contract expiring this summer. “This is the right time for me to step down,” the 43-year-old Spaniard stated. He is now linked with a return to Athletic Bilbao, where he spent many years as a player.

Iraola has transformed Bournemouth since arriving in 2023, establishing the club firmly in the Premier League and steering them away from relegation concerns. Last season, Bournemouth finished ninth, briefly within reach of European qualification spots. With six matches remaining this campaign, they sit only three points adrift of sixth place in a congested midfield battle.

Last Saturday, in one of his final matches, Iraola orchestrated a 2-1 victory at league leaders Arsenal, courtesy of goals from Junior Kroupi and Alex Scott. The result keeps the Gunners’ title hopes fragile.

Rose’s Career Path and Premier League Ambition

A move to Bournemouth would mark Rose‘s first managerial appointment outside Germany or Austria. His coaching journey began at RB Salzburg in 2017, where he spent two years before joining the Bundesliga in 2019.

Strong performances at Borussia Mönchengladbach over two seasons earned Rose the prestigious role at Borussia Dortmund. His single campaign there fell short of expectations, and he departed after twelve months. Rose then returned to manage RB Leipzig, where he remained for two and a half years until recently.

His name has circulated repeatedly among Bundesliga vacancies in recent months, including the Eintracht Frankfurt position that opened following Dino Toppmöller‘s departure in January. Frankfurt ultimately selected Albert Riera.
