Manuel Neuer declined to address reports linking him to a surprise Germany World Cup recall on Saturday, though the Bayern Munich goalkeeper stopped short of closing the door on an international comeback.

The 2014 World Cup winner stepped away from international football after Euro 2024, but a productive domestic season and the absence of a clear No. 1 for Germany have kept his name in circulation. Neuer signed a contract extension with Bayern on Friday, reinforcing his standing as the club’s first choice at 40 years old.
Speaking after Bayern‘s season-ending Bundesliga win over FC Köln, Neuer was asked whether he had been in contact with Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann.
“No, not right now. We stay in touch all year round – just like with other former coaches and officials.”
On the subject of a potential World Cup spot, he kept his focus squarely on the present.
“I’m totally relaxed about it. We’re celebrating the championship today. I have a very important German Cup final next week. For me the World Cup is not an issue today. It is just nice to celebrate the league title and to have the match next week.”
Nagelsmann is scheduled to announce Germany‘s World Cup squad on May 21.
Bayern missed out on a Champions League final berth after losing to holders Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals last week. They still have a shot at the domestic double, meeting Stuttgart in the German Cup final on May 23.
