Manchester City Pursues Historic Eighth Straight FA Cup Semi-Final Against Liverpool

Manchester City will chase a historic eighth consecutive FA Cup semi-final appearance when they face Liverpool on Saturday. Manager Pep Guardiola confirmed the milestone represents unprecedented territory in the competition’s history.

City defeated Arsenal in the League Cup final before the international break. Guardiola intends to channel that momentum into extending City’s FA Cup dominance while pursuing both the Premier League and FA Cup trophies this season.

“Tomorrow we have the chance to reach an incredible milestone, to make eight semi-finals in a row. It’s never happened… it is a prestigious competition, and one of the toughest, special opponents for all of us, Liverpool.” – Guardiola

Since Guardiola’s arrival in 2016, Manchester City have accumulated six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and five League Cups. Liverpool remain the exception to City’s domestic dominance. Guardiola’s record against the Merseyside club stands at nine victories and seven draws across 26 matches, his weakest win rate against any Premier League opponent.

City have beaten Liverpool twice in this season’s Premier League campaign, including a 2-1 comeback victory at Anfield in February that required late heroics.

“So many times they have been the rival, the biggest, biggest one… top contender, top class players, all of them. Hopefully we have to perform in the level we did against Arsenal to reach the next step.” – Guardiola

Guardiola Reflects on Liverpool’s Quality

Guardiola praised Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, who announced his summer departure from the club. The City manager described Salah as one of the greatest players in the Premier League, citing his consistency and statistical output as evidence of his elite status.

“Absolutely. One of the greatest. The numbers, the consistency. What a player… absolute legend, of course for Liverpool, but also for the Premier League,” Guardiola said.

When pressed about midfielder Rodri‘s openness to joining Real Madrid when his City contract expires at season’s end, Guardiola declined to comment on the situation.
