The 25-year-old spent his formative years at Palmeiras between 2020 and 2023 before joining Nottingham Forest, where he made 62 appearances for the club, including 50 in the Premier League. He arrived at Botafogo in July 2025 and has since recorded 11 goals and seven assists across 41 appearances, form strong enough to earn a call-up to the Brazil squad for the 2026 World Cup.

United Enter Race as Botafogo Accept Likely Departure

According to ESPN, Manchester United are firmly in contention, with Botafogo having accepted that a sale is probable this summer. A transfer could generate the Brazilian club around £35m. The report labels Danilo as the “perfect replacement” for Casemiro, who departs Old Trafford on a free transfer at the end of June.

Danilo was absent when Botafogo faced Corinthians on May 17, and it has been suggested his omission could continue while transfer speculation builds around him.

Premier League Familiarity Reduces Transfer Risk

Danilo‘s prior experience in English football reduces the adaptation risk that typically comes with signings from South American leagues. His current Brasileirao numbers back up the interest: seven goals and two assists in 12 league appearances this season. Despite earning only two senior Brazil caps, scoring once, his club form secured his place in the 2026 World Cup squad.

Manchester United are expected to recruit up to three midfielders this summer, and at roughly £35m, Danilo represents credible value at that position. The competition is genuine, with both Arsenal and Palmeiras also pursuing the midfielder, meaning the Red Devils will need to move decisively to win the race.
