Lugano walk into this one riding six straight wins and sitting sixth in the League Phase table, while Kauno Zalgiris arrive bottom of all 36 teams with zero points and a minus-seven goal difference after their first two games. The gap on paper is already huge, but what makes this fixture interesting is just how lopsided the attacking numbers have been across the last month. Lugano have scored thirteen goals in their last five matches combined. Zalgiris have scored one. That single stat kind of tells the story before a ball is even kicked at the AIL Arena.
Albian Ajeti has been the standout for the hosts lately, four goals in his last four appearances, and he looks the obvious outlet in behind a lone striker setup. Uran Bislimi also deserves a mention, two goals and an assist from midfield in that same stretch, which gives Lugano goal threats from multiple angles. For the visitors, Renan Oliveira is really the only attacker with a recent goal to his name, and honestly he’ll need a much better service line than Zalgiris have managed so far in Europe to make a dent here.
Hot stat: Lugano have outscored Kauno Zalgiris 13-1 across their respective last five matches, a gap that’s rare even by Conference League minnow-vs-contender standards.

Lugano vs Kauno Zalgiris prediction
We think Lugano win this comfortably and probably by more than one goal. The bookmakers already have them at roughly 79% implied probability and, looking at the underlying numbers, that feels fair rather than inflated. Lugano are unbeaten in six, scoring heavily against sides of varying quality, from a 5-2 win over Getafe to a 4-0 demolition of lower-league Pully. Zalgiris, meanwhile, have shipped eight goals in their two European outings this season, against Brighton (0-4) and Brann (1-4), and their shot output in both was minimal. Our lean here is Lugano to win and cover a two-goal handicap, with a correct score somewhere around 3-0 or 4-1 feeling the most realistic range.
Stylistically it’s a mismatch too. Lugano have racked up 59 shots, 47 free kicks won and 15 corners across their last five games against Zalgiris’ 16 shots, 29 free kicks and just 2 corners in the same window. Zalgiris do commit fewer fouls (20 vs 59) and pick up fewer cards (6 yellows vs 12), which suggests a side sitting deep and conceding territory rather than pressing aggressively. That passive approach usually invites more goals against, not fewer, when the opponent has this much quality going forward.

Team Analysis
Lugano’s last five results read win, win, win, win, win . . . a 2-1 away success over Basel being the freshest, following on from a 3-2 scrap against Thun, a 5-2 romp at Getafe, a 4-0 rout of Pully and a 3-2 win over Crvena Zvezda. That’s six wins in their last six across all competitions and a 100% winrate in the past month. The Basel game in particular showed they can win ugly too, not just blow teams away, which matters against a side like Zalgiris who might sit back and try to frustrate them early. In our preview of Getafe vs Lugano we backed Lugano to avoid defeat on the back of their scoring form, and the eventual 5-2 away win landed that call comfortably, with goals at both ends too.
Zalgiris present a much messier picture. Domestically they beat Hegelmann Litauen 4-1 in their most recent outing, but before that came a 0-0 draw with Zalgiris (the other one), a heavy 1-4 loss to Brann in Europe, a scrappy 1-0 win over Suduva, and a 0-4 hammering by Brighton. So it’s really two different teams depending on competition, decent enough at home domestically, but completely out of their depth in the Conference League so far. In our preview of Kauno Zalgiris vs Brann we predicted Brann to win comfortably off the back of that opening-round quality gap, and the 1-4 final score backed that read up pretty directly.
Most recent Head-to-Head Matches
These two clubs have no recent competitive meetings on record. This is the first time Lugano and Kauno Zalgiris have crossed paths in a tracked fixture, so there’s no head-to-head trend to lean on here, just the form and stats from their separate campaigns.

Pre-game odds and win probability: Lugano the favourite
- Moneyline Lugano 1.17 | Kauno Zalgiris 13.00
- Draw 6.50
Those moneyline numbers price Lugano in at roughly 85% implied probability once you strip the margin out, slightly above even the bookmakers’ own stated 79% expectation. We think there’s some value sitting in the handicap and goals markets instead of the straight win bet here, given how short the price on Lugano already is. A draw at 6.50 looks a trap price too, there’s very little in the underlying data suggesting Zalgiris can hold out for ninety minutes against a side scoring this freely.
Possible Starting Lineups
Lugano possible starting eleven

- GK: David von Ballmoos
- DF: Lars Lukas Mai, Hannes Delcroix, Behruzjon Karimov, Ezdjan Alijoski
- MF: Anto Grgic, Uran Bislimi, Yanis Cimignani, Dereck Moncada, Daniel Dos Santos Correia
- FW: Albian Ajeti
Croci-Torti has stuck largely with the same faces lately, and the 4-1-4-1 shape gives Grgic the anchor role in midfield while Bislimi and Moncada push forward to support Ajeti up top. Ajeti is the man to watch, four goals in four games is a serious scoring rate at this level, and Zalgiris’ back four hasn’t shown much ability to cope with mobile strikers so far this season.
Kauno Zalgiris possible starting eleven

- GK: Tomas Švedkauskas
- DF: Aldayr Hernandez, Nosa Iyobosa Edokpolor, Joris Moutachy, Lirim Kastrati
- MF: Gratas Sirgedas, Amine Benchaib, Vykintas Slivka
- FW: Renan Oliveira, Leon Krekovic, Gabriel Debeljuh
Sopic’s 4-3-3 relies on Švedkauskas, who’s made nine saves already this campaign and will likely be the busiest man on the pitch tonight. Oliveira is the one attacker with a goal to his name recently and probably Zalgiris’ best hope of a consolation strike on the counter, but their midfield trio has been overrun in both European games played so far.

The Verdict
Our call on this one is straightforward. Lugano to win, probably by two goals or more, with the goals coming from several different sources rather than relying on Ajeti alone. The shot numbers, the corner count, the fouls committed, all of it points one way. Zalgiris have conceded eight goals in two Conference League matches already this season and nothing in their squad data suggests that changes here, away at a team with six straight wins behind them. We’d pair the home win with over 3.5 goals and lean away from BTTS, Zalgiris just haven’t shown enough going forward to trust them scoring against this level of opposition. Maybe they nick something late once the game’s already decided, but we wouldn’t build a bet around it.
