LoL: Winter Map Rumored to Return for the Holidays

16.08.2025, 09:10

Riot Games is rumored to be bringing back the much-loved winter-themed Summoner’s Rift — a nostalgic fan favorite that hasn’t been seen in years. While winter skins have stuck around, the full map reskin has been noticeably absent. According to recent leaks, the frosty map is set to make its grand return during the upcoming holiday season.

This would mark the fourth distinct Summoner’s Rift design of the year, following 2025’s lineup of themed Rifts: the Noxus-inspired battleground, the serene Spirit Blossom version, and the recently restored base green map.

A Year of Visual Evolution in Summoner’s Rift

Riot has pushed boundaries this year with frequent cosmetic changes to the Rift, in sync with the newly segmented competitive season. Each stage has brought its own visual identity — starting strong with a bold red Noxian theme and shifting to the tranquil blues of Spirit Blossom.

For the third segment, Riot confirmed via a DevBlog in mid-August that Summoner’s Rift would return to its classic green look, stripping away thematic overlays to focus on gameplay clarity. But things might not stay that plain for long.

What’s Next: Darkin Teasers & Winter Hype

Although Riot officially outlined a minimalist approach for the season’s end, they also teased a narrative fusion of Noxus and Spirit Blossom themes. All signs point toward an incoming champion, Zaahen — a new Darkin entity — dropping alongside a potential Darkin event pass. If that happens, expect plenty of regional flair to spice up the supposed “base” map.

And here’s where it gets interesting: with holiday events typically landing around this timeframe, the reintroduction of the winter map could coincide perfectly. It’s not confirmed yet — but given Riot’s recent pattern of experimentation and community-driven choices, it’s looking like a strong possibility.

Stay tuned, Summoners. Snow might be coming to the Rift.
