Liverpool face a looming contract puzzle over Alexis Mac Allister, and Real Madrid are reportedly circling as the Argentine’s situation at Anfield remains unresolved heading toward 2027.
The 27-year-old continues to rank among Liverpool‘s most valuable players, yet his current deal runs only until 2028 with no extension talks reported. That gap has given Real Madrid room to watch closely and plan accordingly.
Sky Germany Reveals Mourinho’s Admiration
Sky Germany reports that Real Madrid view Mac Allister as a serious option for a future midfield overhaul. José Mourinho is said to rate the World Cup winner highly, pointing to his physical strength, intensity in duels and capacity to dictate tempo through the center of the pitch.
The same report states Liverpool have no concrete plans to open extension talks with Mac Allister at this stage, a detail that only strengthens Madrid’s position of patience.
Mac Allister has addressed the uncertainty directly, insisting he will keep giving full effort for Liverpool no matter how the contract situation develops.
His standing among teammates remains unaffected by the speculation. Conor Bradley praised him bluntly: “He’s just an unbelievable footballer.” Bradley also called him “so calm on the ball” and “a joy to play with.”
Mac Allister Faces a Contract Crossroads at Liverpool
Liverpool’s real concern should be the contract clock, not Madrid’s interest on its own.
Mac Allister fits Andoni Iraola’s midfield structure almost perfectly. He blends technical polish with aggression, sharp reading of the game and versatility across multiple midfield roles.
The issue is leverage. Should Liverpool reach next summer without a signed extension, Mac Allister will enter his final contract year.
That shift changes everything in negotiations. Liverpool would then face a stark choice: sell at a premium while his value remains high, or risk his price eroding as the exit date nears.
Real Madrid’s interest makes sense given the circumstances, but it is far from inevitable.
Liverpool are not forced into a rushed decision or a discounted sale. The club simply needs clarity on whether Mac Allister belongs in the long-term core of the squad.
If the answer is yes, locking in a new deal should move up the priority list before Madrid’s monitoring turns into a formal approach.
