Liverpool Get Green Light to Sign 'Next Jude Bellingham' Hugo Larsson

04.07.2026, 08:02

Liverpool may finally get the opportunity to sign Hugo Larsson this summer, more than a year after the Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder was first linked with a move to Anfield. According to Fabrizio Romano, clubs have been given the green light to pursue a transfer, with initial approaches already made amid growing interest in the Swedish international.

The Reds have plenty of work ahead in the transfer window as Andoni Iraola prepares to work with his new squad for the first time, having been appointed as Arne Slot’s successor last month. Victor Munoz became the Spaniard’s first signing, but subsequent attempts to add a second player have proved fruitless. Primary midfield target Yan Diomande has opted for Paris Saint-Germain over Liverpool should he depart RB Leipzig this summer.

While replacing Mohamed Salah remains the priority, midfield is another area that demands attention. The Reds struggled in the center of the pitch during the 2025/26 campaign despite Dominik Szoboszlai earning the club’s player of the season award. Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch both fell short of their previous standards, and with Curtis Jones linked with an exit and Harvey Elliott potentially securing a permanent move, Liverpool needs to identify new options in that position.

Larsson is one name under consideration. The 22-year-old was valued at around $62 million (€60M) when he was linked with Liverpool last year, though that figure may have shifted. He remains under contract with Frankfurt until 2029.

The former Malmo star made 34 appearances across all competitions last season, contributing two goals and three assists. Analyst Ben Mattinson, who now works as a scout for Como, previously highlighted Larsson’s standout quality as a ball-carrier, citing his insane running power and stamina.

“When giving the eye test on Larsson he’s very similar to [Jude] Bellingham stylistically and was initially my pick to replace Jude at Borussia Dortmund but he suits Frankfurt very well and they’re building a top team. Excited to see how he settles in.” — Ben Mattinson

Larsson looks ready to take a step up, and a move to the Premier League appears likely regardless of whether Liverpool is the destination. Follow TipsGG for continued coverage as this transfer situation develops.
