Lionel Messi made a surprise visit to Barcelona’s Camp Nou on Sunday night, reigniting speculation about a potential return to the club.
The 38-year-old shared photographs from his visit on Instagram, writing,
Last night, I returned to a place that I miss with all my soul. A place where I was immensely happy, where you made me feel a thousand times like the happiest person in the world. I hope that one day I’ll be able to come back, and not just to say goodbye as a player, as I was never able to do!
Messi left Barcelona in 2021 due to the club’s financial issues, but he has since committed his future to Inter Miami, signing a contract until 2028. However, his recent visit has sparked discussions about a possible return, perhaps through a strategic loan move.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta expressed his desire to honor Messi with a tribute at the renovated Camp Nou, stating,
Of course, I’d love that. It would be a beautiful way to show gratitude and recognition. When we reach 100,000 capacity, we’ll be able to hold the tribute he, the club, and everything we achieved together deserve.
