Mali’s coach Anthony da Silva watched his team put four unanswered second-half minutes to good use against Cape Verde, winning 3-1 in a game that suggested more spark going forward than their recent scoring drought had shown. Honestly, this fixture reads like a mismatch on the standings alone, though qualifiers in this region have a habit of throwing up scrappy, low-quality nights regardless of the gap in ability.
Keep an eye on Nene Dorgeles, who scored twice against Cape Verde and looks like Mali’s most direct route to goal right now. We’re backing Mali to win here, and not by a small margin. The market has this at roughly 1.45 for the visitors against around 6.57 for a Liberia win, which tells its own story, but the value angle we like is Mali winning to nil or by a two-goal margin. Liberia have failed to score in three of their last five outings and have shipped multiple goals in three of those same five, a defense that’s been breached repeatedly against sides of similar or lesser quality than Mali. Given Mali’s stronger recent form (unbeaten in three of their last four before this camp) and Liberia’s current 0-1 domestic slump, a 2-0 or 2-1 Mali win feels like the most honest read of this game.

Team Analysis
Liberia’s form has been rough going by any measure. Their last five results read as one win, one draw and three losses, and the most recent of those was the 1-3 loss away to Rwanda that opened this qualifying campaign. Sylvanus Nimely’s goal was a rare positive, but the underlying numbers, just 5 interceptions and heavily one-sided possession, point to a team that struggles to control matches against decent opposition. In our preview of Rwanda vs Liberia we called a Rwanda win with goals at both ends, something around 2-1 or 3-1, and the 3-1 final score landed pretty close to that call.
Mali, meanwhile, arrive on the back of a much happier result. Their 3-1 win over Cape Verde snapped a run of low-scoring games, with Nene Dorgeles doing the damage twice and Ange Martial Tia adding a third. Before that, though, Mali had scored just once in four matches, a 0-2 loss to Iran, a goalless draw with Russia, a 0-1 loss to Senegal and a 1-1 draw with Tunisia. Haidara and Mamadou Sangare form a sturdy double pivot behind an attacking trio, with Dorgeles leading the line after his double against Cape Verde. Ange Martial Tia is worth watching too, he scored in that same game and his 26 lost balls hint at a player who takes risks in the final third, which could open things up further against a shaky Liberia back line.

The Verdict
Our punters team is going with Mali to win this one, and comfortably. Liberia’s defensive frailty, three multi-goal concessions in five matches, meets a Mali attack that just found its rhythm against Cape Verde. We don’t expect a repeat of that 3-1 scoreline necessarily, Mali’s overall goal output this year has been thin, but something like 2-0 or 2-1 fits both team’s recent patterns. Under 2.5 total goals and no BTTS both look like sensible side bets given how quiet these two attacks have mostly been. Liberia can nick a goal, they have before, but stopping Mali twice looks like the tougher ask on the night.
